Hey, remember how Dave Hill of ***Dave Does The Blog and I would occasionally get together online and talk about stuff that you guys wanted to hear our opinions on? Remember how the last time we did it we were both shocked and appalled that it had been three years since the previous podcast?
Well, fuck me if it hasn’t been almost three years again since the last one.
So it’s about damned time that we get together for another one. The last one was accomplished via a Google Hangouts live stream and, other than a small technical hangup audio-wise early on, it worked pretty well so we’re doing that again!
That means we’re once again looking for suggestions of things you’d like to hear us talk about whether we’re qualified to pontificate on it or not. Given the political prediction I made during the last one that I was completely and totally wrong about, you can be sure I’ll probably be completely wrong about something I say during this one.
You can leave your suggestions in the comments here, on ***Dave Does the Blog, or on our social media accounts if that’s what suits you. We’ll scrape ’em together and see what kind of trouble we can get into with them.
The actual live stream is set for 1PM EDT on Sunday the 6th of May so you’ve got some time to think up something good. I’ve got an event for it on G+, but it’s currently set to private. If there’s sufficient interest in watching it live as we stumble through it I can always make the event public. Let me know.
For those of you who prefer to listen to a podcast (as opposed to watching it) your wait is finally over! I have converted the Back from the Dead podcast from Google Hangouts into an MP3 file. Complete with all the mistakes and glitches of the original! Don’t think of it as me being lazy. Think of it as it being a truly authentic experience!
You can download the file by clicking here or you can listen to it from this entry using the media player below.
It’s finally happened! Dave and I managed to find an hour to sit down and talk about politics and television while answering YOUR questions! It all happened LIVE in Google Hangouts where we even took a few comments and questions from the 2 people who watched it as it happened! If you didn’t get a chance to tune in (we didn’t exactly broadcast the time it was going to happen) you can still watch it below:
You can also watch it from the event page which you’ll find by clicking here and there you can vote for your favorite moments. I’ll be working to turn it into a standard MP3 podcast for those folks who prefer to listen without having to stare at the goofy faces Dave and I made at each other. We had a lot of fun and next time I think we’ll try to schedule it more concretely so we can make it a proper event and have more folks watching and commenting as we do it. Hopefully it won’t be another 3 years before we do the next one.
Hey, remember how way back in February I wrote a post about reviving the SEB Podcast and everyone was all like “that’s a great idea” and Dave was all “we should totally do that” and then the weeks passed and I posted updates that said it was still “totally going to happen”? Remember that?
Well it’s still totally happening. After months of Dave remodeling his kitchen and me packing up everything I own and moving to a smaller apartment and him being sick and me being lazy, we’ve both marked this Sunday as the day we’re totally going to do the podcast.
So, seeing as it’s been some time since I last asked you folks what you’d like to hear us chat about I thought I should put out the call once again. If you suggested something previously and still want to hear about that topic that’s fine, but if you’ve come up with an even better topic then now is your chance to let us know. Just leave a comment on this post or drop me an email and we’ll see if we can’t come up with something to say about it. Cause it’s totally gonna happen this weekend.
I checked the SEB Podcast archive this morning and realized that it’s been almost three years since the last one (May 8, 2012) which is really weird because it totally doesn’t feel like it’s been three years. So I rang up Dave Hill of ***Dave Does the Blog fame, who has traditionally been my co-host on the podcast, and asked him if he was interested in getting back into it. He agreed it was about damned time we did another one and so we’re figuring out what our weekends look like to try and get one in the can soon.
Three years is a long time and these days all the cool kids are doing their podcasts via Google Hangouts so you can see the people who are talking and Dave suggested we try that route for our next outing. I thought that was a good idea even though my current desktop placement is in my basement and my current backdrop consists of a shitload of boxes full of crap from the last time we moved that we never got around to unpacking (which is probably for the best considering I’ll probably be moving this May). So my first task will be rigging up something to hide the ungodly mess that would otherwise be visible behind me.
Traditionally we’ve asked the readers of our respective blogs to submit any topics they’d like us to chat about. I’ll be honest, with as infrequent as my blogging has been lately I don’t know if there’s enough interested parties to make suggestions, but if you’re still checking in here and have something you’d like to hear us express our semi-informed opinions on you can either leave a comment on this entry or send me an email and let us know.
Yes, this is an attempt to get back into blogging/podcasting more often. Something I’ve been meaning to do for awhile. This year may also be the year that I finally get around to trying my hand at vlogging, something else I’ve been kicking around for years. Though right now I’ll be happy if I just manage to get back into blogging a couple times a week at a minimum.
Yes! As promised, this past weekend saw ***Dave and I sitting down in front of our respective PCs and attempting to pontificate at length on various topics including many that you supplied us with. We talked politics touching on Mitt Romney’s apparent nomination, Paul Ryan’s general obnoxiousness, and David Barton’s twisting of history and how the Founding Fathers were not perfect beings who made no mistakes. We spoke of classical music and our short-lived time as musicians. We chattered on about how much the new movie The Avengers sucks. Endless erections caused by BMW motorcycles. The really bad sci-fi movie The Lawnmower Man. And we round out the conversation with discussing the movie trailers ***Dave saw before his viewing of The Avengers.
In all it’s an hour and 16 minutes of non-stop meandering where we manage to stay on topic… mostly. This is the original unedited recording. I had spent most of last night editing it up a bit, but on reviewing the work this evening I decided I didn’t like it. I wanted it to sound more like two guys having a conversation than a NPR-ish recording and so I decided to abandon the edits and I didn’t even bother trying to find music to put at the beginning. I’m not sure why, but this just felt better to me than all the usual edits and additions I have done in the past.
Plus, it was less work.
You can either listed to the podcast by using the player at the bottom of this entry or you can download it by clicking here so you can put it on your MP3 player of choice or copy it to a CD and then bury it in the backyard. As always, comments/criticisms/compliments/complaints can be left in the comments as you see fit. Once again ***Dave and I had a lot of fun doing this and we hope you’re at least as amused as we were.
You may recall that a few weeks ago I announced that ***Dave and I would be doing another SEB Podcast. You may also be wondering why it has never shown up on SEB. The answer is life. Life is why it hasn’t happened.
See, ***Dave found out he was going to be busy the weekend were originally planned to do it so we delayed it by a week. When then next planned date arrived I woke with one helluva migraine and forgot all about doing the podcast while I laid around and tried very hard to dull the pain. After that ***Dave was out of town for a couple of weekends and after that we both just kinda forgot about it. Plus ***Dave has been sick recently so I decided not to bug him about it.
We had every intention of doing it, but life got in the way. We’ll eventually get around to it at some point I’m sure, but I thought I should mention why it is AWOL. That and someone actually wrote me an email asking about it.
So you may recall that last Sunday Dave, George, and I sat down to do a podcast. Which we did, about an hour later than I had intended seeing as I allowed myself to become engrossed in shooting bad guys and ended up being almost an hour late to my own podcast. Still, we got through it and had a good time and talked about Google Reader and how sad we all are at the removal of its testicles social features, we talked about Herman Cain and his current popularity with the Republican party with a little Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter thrown in for good measure, a little about Occupy Wall Street, there was some video game banter on how they may become the new medium for story telling, some love for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, some kudos to Apple for being one of the few corporations that actually pay taxes in the U.S., and a whole lot of other stuff to boot. Plus the return of opening music that we hope we won’t get sued over.
This was a tougher than usual podcast in part because my brain just wasn’t working right at the time. Still, through the magic of two hours of audio editing I was able to clean up a lot of the long and awkward pauses and make us all sound coherent in thought and speech. Which was particularly important for me considering how much trouble I was having just putting sentences together.
As always you can either download the full episode by clicking here or you can listen to it using the audio player at the bottom of this entry. It’ll take up just a wee bit over an hour to listen to (a wee bit being 3 minutes). We had a good time doing it and we hope you enjoy listening to it. Feel free to leave your comments/criticisms/accolades in the comments below.
