Despite it being almost three years since the last one and no one suggesting anything for us to talk about, Dave Hill and I managed to blather on for an hour about whatever we wanted to including some spoilery talk on Avengers: Infinity War. You’ll find it embedded below and the spoilers start at 47:17 so skp the last 13 minutes if you don’t want to hear them:
So I see the blog is getting dusty again. Here’s what I’ve been up to instead of writing stuff.
Mostly it’s been looking for a new place to live. Our lease on our apartment here in Ann Arbor is up at the end of May and, much like the last several years, the folks at Village Green are asking for a huge jump in rent for us to stay another year (from $1,010 to $1,145). We’re living hand to mouth as it is already and so we’re on the hunt for someplace new which, unfortunately, means leaving Ann Arbor. We thought we’d found a place in Whitmore Lake, but the guy they thought was leaving in May has opted to stay another year and so they don’t have any units that’ll be available before we have to move.
Now we’re looking at possible renting a manufactured house in Novi which would put me within 15 minutes of work, but they’re already finding it hard to just show us the unit we’d be renting and that makes me wonder if moving there would be a mistake. We saw a unit that someone else is renting last Thursday and they promised we could see the one we were being offered either Monday or Tuesday, but here is is Wednesday and I actually had to take the day off tomorrow to maybe see it because reasons. They have an move-in incentive of getting the first month for free, but that promotion ends tomorrow if we don’t sign up and I’m not signing up until I see exactly what it is I’m signing up for. So depending on how things go tomorrow my hunt may or may not be over.
The SEB Podcast revival is still going to happen, but I’m not sure exactly when. Dave has been busy with remodeling his kitchen out in Denver and the month of May will have Anne and I packing for the move to wherever at the end of the month. So maybe we’ll squeeze it in and maybe it’ll be June. Still, Dave and I totally plan on doing it and we may re-ask about topics depending on how long it takes us to get our shit together.
Beyond that, the weather has improved a bit as of late, but I’m still not back to walking as often as I should. I’ve made it out a couple of times with my buddy Greg, but it’s still not a routine. My weight is hovering right in the mid-280’s so at least I haven’t put back on all that I’ve lost. I thought my Fitbit had crapped out on me as it stopped syncing for several days and I got on Twitter to moan about it and the FitBit folks responded with the secret of how to do a reset on the device. It’s back to working again and reminding me that I am one lazy motherfucker.
If you stopped by SEB today you may have found it unresponsive. Seems the Varnish cache that Dreamhost puts on the account needed to have its memory settings tweaked and was killing the site for several hours. Alas, the couple of posts I had intended to write (other than this one) have since withered and died. I’ll try to post something in the next day or so.
Seeing as it’s been several weeks since the original call for topics for the 8th SEB Podcast it’d probably be a good idea to solicit new ones for it now that ***Dave and I have managed to settle on doing it this Sunday.
So I am once again turning to you, dear readers, for your suggestions/questions/topics that you’d like to hear two middle-aged white guys pontificate about at length. We’ll chatter on about nearly anything regardless of how qualified or (more likely) not we are to say anything cogent about it.
Opinions are like assholes and we have a lot of them… wait… that doesn’t sound quite right.
Anyway, you can either leave your suggestions in the comments on this thread or email them to me by clicking here. We’ll be recording the podcast this Sunday! For reals this time! Most likely.
Looks like you folks with have another week to think of topics for ***Dave and I to talk about in the next SEB Podcast. Seems ***Dave managed to break his computer and is currently Skypeless and thus unable to participate in our semi-regular forays into tangent travelling. He believes he should be back up and running in time to tackle it next weekend either through fixing what he has or tossing it out a window and buying a new one.
So put those thinking caps back on and see if you can’t come up with a couple more topics while ***Dave tries to salvage what he can from the burning wreckage that was his personal laptop. I’ll be over here either saving the free world from terrorists or ridding Azeroth of the orc menace.
It’s been a few of months since the last time ***Dave and I got together and rambled on semi-coherently and so that itch is looking to be scratched once again. And, as always, we’re asking you to provide us with any topics you’d like to hear us pontificate on.
Got a burning question on religion, politics, life, the universe, and/or everything you would love to hear us talk about? Leave a comment here or drop me an email with what it is. It can be almost anything as there are few things we’re not ready to chat about even if we’re completely unqualified to offer any opinions on it. That makes us just as fine of pundits as any of the talking heads on FOX News.
So loosen up those typing muscles and start tapping out your suggestions/questions and we’ll work on staying off tangents (yeah, right) and then ***Dave and I will sit down and record it all for posterity (you’re welcome future generations to come) this Sunday.
The stars have once again come into alignment and that means we’re gearing up to do another Stupid Evil Bastard Podcast. This time ***Dave and I will be joined by George Wiman of Decrepit Old Fool. So you’ll be getting an extra third of pointless nattering with the next installment.
As per usual, we’re being lazy and asking you guys what you’d like to hear us talk about. Any questions you’ve been dieing to ask George? Or, for that matter, Dave or myself? You’ve got a whole week to get them in by leaving a comment on this entry or dropping me an email. Don’t be shy, we’re will to discuss just about anything. We might even have something insightful and ageless to say about it, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that last part. We’ll be recording it next Sunday assuming the rapture or something doesn’t happen before then.
No musical intro this time, but we kept it under an hour and a half and we cover a whole bunch of stuff ranging from alcoholic drinks, Rick Perry, why progressives should vote for Obama, and the tension between brick and mortar stores and online retailers. Plus tangents! So many tangents as is our habit to do. We may not be the most entertaining or informative podcast, but we’re certainly one of the widest in variation of topics.
As always you can listen to it in the player below or download it by clicking here. We’re also open to hearing any comments/criticisms/witticisms in the comments. Let us know what you think.
Fall arrives tomorrow and with it comes the need to do yet another Stupid Evil Bastard Podcast. ***Dave and I have managed to coordinate a time this Saturday to record another rambling session of tangent taking, but as always we need your help!
Topics! We need your topics! What do you want to hear two middle aged white nerdy guys talk about for an hour (or more)? Need relationship advice? Want our political insights? We’re up for questions on just about anything no matter how ill qualified we happen to be to answer them. We can’t promise you the secrets to the ultimate questions of life, the Universe, and everything, but we’ll at least try to be funny when we make shit up.
So take a moment to drop a comment on this entry or send me an email with whatever you’re just dying to hear us address.
It only took 11 months to get around to, but the fifth episode of the Stupid Evil Bastard Podcast is finally available for your listening enjoyment. In this installment we tackle a number of suggested topics and a shit load of tangents because that’s the way we do things around here (read: haphazard and poorly planned). Topics include Sarah Palin’s bus tour, the field of Republican presidential candidates and how Michelle Bachman makes all the rest actually look desirable in comparison, some disappointment in Obama, the Buddhist concept that there is no “self”, various TV shows we are watching at the moment, and a little something something on Patriotism in honor of the day we did the recording.
Or, more concisely, it’s an hour and a half of Dave and I rambling about all sorts of shit. As always you can either download the episode by clicking here or you can listen to it in the handy Flash player at the end of this entry. Please feel free to leave comments/suggestions/complaints/rants as you see fit in the comments. We had a blast doing it so we hope that makes it interesting for you as well.
***Dave and I managed to babble for about an hour and a half yesterday and the tangents were flying fast and furious. However I also spent most of yesterday suffering from vertigo, which is a new experience in itself, so much of what I wanted to do yesterday didn’t get done. That includes massaging the podcast into shape for uploading to the site.
Today I seem to be doing much better so once I get home from work this evening I’ll see if I can’t get the podcast up for you guys to check out. I think it’s pretty good, but that’s based on how much fun I had doing it. Hopefully you folks will enjoy listening to it.
