I’m zoning out at the moment. Please leave a message after the tone.

I’m in a weird lethargic state of mind where thinking is harder than usual. Not sure if it’s being caused by a case of the Winter Blahs or just from using up all my mental energy getting through work and then going to class the last couple of days, but I keep thinking I should post something to the blog and everything I come across that I would normally write about is not inspiring much output.

Take this article about COPA being struck down by the Supreme Court. This is something I would normally write about as it deals with attempts to censor what can be hosted on a website. It’s a classic “won’t someone think of the children” bit of legislation and I’m quite pleased to see it finally die after so many years of litigation during which it was never enforced. But other than saying I’m pleased it’s dead I can’t think of anything else to say about it.

Work has been a little busier than usual and school is currently a bit boring as we’re covering stuff in the Windows Server 2003/2008 class that we covered last semester in the Networking class I took for a bit of a refresher before getting into the server stuff proper. Last night in the hardware class we took apart the PC on our desk and put it back together. Something I’ve done literally thousands of times over the years and could do with a blindfold on, in a dark room, with a toothpick, and both my arms tied behind my back. The one saving grace of the class so far is my lab partner is a total newbie when it comes to working on hardware so I spend a good potion of my time making sure he understands what the hell he’s doing and why he’s doing it. Something the instructor appears to appreciate as it makes for two fewer people he has to check in on. You know it’s going to be a fairly smooth class when your instructor is hitting you up for advice on possible components he should buy to upgrade his PC.

So here’s my “I got nuthin” post to explain why I’ve not been posting. As is often the case I’ll probably find a half-dozen things to post about now that I’ve greased the wheels a bit. Oh, I did finally finish up reading Kluge and I plan to get a review up shortly. Once my brain starts working again.

  1. It’s got to be good to know that you have the well deserved attention of your instructor.  Hang in there kid you are doing fine!

  2. Don’t worry.  It’s probably just the vacuum caused by the lack of anticipation now that the Obama inauguration is over with.  It usually takes a few days of mainstream media to get over it smile

  3. You know it’s not been a good day when your brain only starts working when you go to bed, then you can’t get to sleep.

That happens to me all the time… I just figured it was too much coffee…

  5. “Won’t someone think of the children?!!”

I love it when they say that.

The children want to eat junk food, play with their friends, look at naked pictures, and learn about stuff they’re actually interested in (like naked people).

This is one of those fetishes that needs to die. Structure and support, yes. Overarching control of every aspect of their lives, no.

Children… Hell.  Censorship is control, nothing more and nothing less.  If it was just about the children, the it would begin and end in the home.  The idea that I have to curb MY behavior because someone else is too lazy to take responsibility for themselves or their own kids is beyond stupid, but we’ve come to accept it as natural, if inconvenient.  There’s no rational justification for censorship.  There never was.  Supporting it means you buy into the idea that not only are other people incapable of taking responsibility for their own actions, but that you aren’t either.
