Al-Jazeera reveals racism at Sarah Palin rallies.

It’s not bad enough that The Daily Show does a better job than most major American news programs, but now Al-Jazeera is doing a better job:

Racism and ignorance is indeed alive and well in this country and the Republican party continues to milk it for all they can.

  1. You have to be kidding me…is this really for real???

These freakin’ people scare the shit out of me.  The one guy even had a little baby in his arms…to think that he would teach that little baby that way of thinking.  It is people that like that made me not want to move back to my home state since a lot of the people there I know are like that.  I don’t want my children growing up thinking like that.

    *sigh*

  2. obama’s a duck now?  damn main stream media doesn’t report anything these days!

at least al jazeera showed some “down home country folk” supporting obama, they aren’t all prejudiced assholes.

perhaps the most newsowrthy event of all: al jazeera is in ohio.  that just doesn’t seem right.

  3. Al-Jazeera is well worth watching.  Sure, it’s tendentious, but so’s CNN.  I check it out occasionally for a different perspective on world news.

  4. Al-Jazeera is a great news network and one of the only news networks I have seen that are there for the news and not the twist.

  5. There are even Palin supporters yelling out shit like “kill him” when Obama’s name is mentioned in her speeches. Perhaps even more scary is the fact that Palin stands idly by while those supporters yell out this crap. Nothing like giving tacit approval by inaction.

If I were a candidate giving a speech and someone shouted out threats like that, I would stop my speech mid-sentence and call for Secret Service to remove the offending person. All the while standing at the podium in silence until the person has been removed. It would be the right thing to do, and would demonstrate that racism is not to be tolerated, even if directed at an opponent.

But then again, we’re talking “Kill & Drill” Palin. What was I thinking?

  6. But, isn’t racism approved of in the Babble? If it’s good enough for God, it’s good enough for me! What am I saying???  shock

  7. I’m not too hopped up about the death threats of the occasional freak. And racist talk isn’t illegal (at least not in the US).

What makes me wonder is that McCain, at least in those Youtube videos that float around, is so indecisive about it. He clearly doesn’t revel in it like a good demagogue would – so why does he just stand there, or, at best, talk back a little, while getting booed. Heck, if he had shouted those hecklers down with his claimed landmark temper, or just quit the event when they didn’t stop – he could milk that in public all month long (“John McCain – Integrity isn’t just a word” or some such bullshit).

  8. So instead of being seen as either agressively attacking Obama, or, instead, a politician with some integrity, he looks weak. Maybe they should call it Palin – McCain 08 instead. She certainly seems to drive the agenda more than he does.

  9. These people make me sick and disgusted. I can’t believe this is the USA. It kind of makes me ashamed of my country at times. Yes racism is legal but making death threats is not especially a presidential candidate. The secret service should all over who says them. They have to take any threat seriously. I mean I know that racism is still a problem in this country and it’s just below the surface but seeing it on tv for real. It’s pretty scary.  gulp

  10. Thanks, Leguru, for the followup story. Interesting that of all the media present at the rally, no one corroborated the claim and no one had any audio of the alleged outburst. Since the reporter who made the claim seems to have no recording of it, it appears to be a hoax.

  11. Well, those are the kind of people the GOP attracts, hope they are happy with that. Its funny how many GOP people call Obama a ‘socialist’ when thier glorious leader (Bush)has made one of the biggest jumps toward Socialism in the hitory of this country, although not the ‘nice’ kind of socialism I fear…

  12. Sorry, Jim, government disbursement only counts as “socialism” when it goes to the needy.  If it goes to the military, and to their filthy rich corporate suppliers, it counts as “patriotism”.  So Bush is a patriot, not a socialist.

  13. IT is pretty scary that this shit still exists in this country. Hopefully Obama’s election will put to rest the ignorance.

  14. I’m afraid that if Obama gets elected, and turns out to be a competent president and starts getting things done, there is no doubt in my mind that there will be an assassination attempt made on him.  People like this convince me.

  15. turns out to be a competent president

What’s that got to do with anything.  If you are going to assassinate the President because you are a racist his competence has nothing to do with it.

  16. What’s that got to do with anything.  If you are going to assassinate the President because you are a racist his competence has nothing to do with it.

If he turns out to be competent, then his popularity grows, and he will piss off that many more stupid Republicans.  They will be scared of 4 more years of him and the fundies will start calling him the anti-christ.  The whack-jobs will have more reason to kill him and less reason to worry about consequences.  I can’t see a better recipe for a crazy martyr with a gun.  You don’t freak out if YOU think someone is competent, but you do freak out when everyone BUT you does.
