The easy part is done…

… we’ve got all the furniture moved, save for a floor lamp, along with the computers and a handful of boxes. There’s still a whole lot of packing to be done and boxes to be moved, but we’re actually here and I’m posting from my living room. Our computers aren’t up and running yet, but I’ve got my work laptop here and the wireless is working so I can at least check email and the blog. We should have the computers up and running in the next day or so, have some of the boxes unpacked, and some of the misc shopping we need to do done.

So far I’m pretty impressed with the IPTV/Broadband service from AT&T we’ve signed up for, but the real test will come once we get a decent HDTV in here (looking for recommendations on deals on 42 inchers btw) and have the desktops all hooked up. I’ll probably write more about U-Verse later when I’ve had a chance to really put it through its paces.

I managed to get myself one hell of a sunburn today which I’m sure is going to be painful as hell tomorrow, but we got some lotion that’s helping and I’m sure I’ll survive. Just hope it doesn’t interfere with sleeping much. I’ve got work in the morning so I’ll pack it in for now. Should be back to regular posting over the next couple of days.

  1. Les, I used to work for AT&T;U-Verse for a short period of time…if you need customer service please GOD make sure you get some one from the Milwaukee call center, they are the better trained techs.

  2. The computer wasn’t unpacked and set up first? WTH!

I recently aquired a Sony 40” Bravia and it is excellent. Highly recommended. The Bluray picture quality is amazing.

  3. I’ve had U-Verse for over a year now.  If you got any questions, feel free to shoot me an email.

  4. Bob, thanks for the tip. I’ll keep it in mind.

CO, I’m in my 40’s now. I’ve learned a modicum of patience. though my daughter was ready to set hers up on the floor of her bedroom last night. I convinced her to wait until I have time to assemble her computer desk she bought.

Chief, no questions so far. I’ve only played around with it a little bit so far. I was amazed to see that the IPTV has a channel specifically for allowing you to view your Flickr photos on your TV if you have a Flickr account.

  5. Good place for research is AVS forums http://www.avsforum.com/ ..also the HT guys(same site) have a decent podcast that talks about HDTV..No doubt you will be thrown into the LCD vs Plasma wars but in the end its all good…Plasmas are really cheap right now compared to LCD, I’ve seen 42inch in the $800 range…Sears has the panny 42 inch 720p for 899 minus 5% rebate.

  6. Les,

Did you get a set up with a DVR?  If so, then you can actually set up recording via the internet. Just login with to your account and click on the ATT UVerse link.  Pretty handy feature if you think of something you want to record and are afraid you might forget to add it by the time you actually get home.
