“PAIN” looks like it’ll be an assload of fun.

So I’ve had the PS3 for a few weeks now and the only actual PS3 game I own at the moment is a purchase off the Playstation Network (PSN) called Calling All Cars created by the guy who brought us God of War, namely David Jaffe. It’s a fun little download and it only cost $6 and it helps to tide me over until I get one of the big titles under my belt.

What’s interesting, however, is that it appears there may be more low-cost gems to be found on PSN in the not too distant future. Take, for example, the upcoming release of PAIN. A game that invites you to launch your on screen avatar from giant slingshots to see how much havoc you can cause in any of 6 game play modes including online multiplayer. See the trailer below for a quick overview of what the game is like:

Perhaps I’m easily amused, but I’m really looking forward to this game which will only be available as a purchased download through PSN. No word yet on the cost, but if it’s as reasonably priced at Calling All Cars was then I’ll definitely be picking it up. Plus they’ll be updating it in the future with new modes and additional characters, though I’ll be happy with the Mime Toss play mode alone.

  1. I don’t know if I can take it anymore. That game looks the shit, and if money wasn’t an issue I would be all over that!!!

  2. My one concern about PAIN is brought up in a Gamespot Hands-On preview with the final build of the game and that’s the pricing structure.

It appears the base game will cost $10 for one environment and two different characters, not bad for such a simple game. Additional levels and characters will be made available later at prices and quantities not yet announced. The concern is that they may end up trying to nickel and dime us to death by releasing one level or character at a time. Sony hasn’t said exactly what the expansions will consist of or how much they cost so there’s reason to be hopeful. Still it’s something to keep an eye on.
