Crazy Email of the Day: “you know it all” replies!

I often reply to the crazy emails I get just to see what kind of a response I’ll get which, most of the time, is none. Occasionally someone does take the bait and this brings us back to Paolo who challenged me on Evolution the other day. Here’s his latest missive:

    Hi Les,
Just quote me 1 fact in support of evolution! just one!
It´s a religion and in order to believe it you have to have faith.

Evolution keeps on adjusting its statements as soon as new evidence that disproves it come up.

Look for instance at the finding of soft tissues and blood vessels of dinosaurs recently, instead of dismissing that dinosaurs have lived 65 millions of years ago they say :” Wow blood vessels can keep soft for that long ??!…”
It beggars belief that elastic tissue like this could have lasted for 65 million years.
Soft tissues like blood vessels should not be there if the bones were 65 million years old.
How could these cells last for 65 million years?

Unfortunately, the long-age paradigm is so dominant that facts alone will not readily overturn it.  What generally happens when a discovery contradicts a paradigm is that the paradigm is not discarded but modified, usually by making secondary assumptions, to accommodate the new evidence.
So will this new evidence cause anyone to stand up and say there’s something funny about the emperor’s clothes? Not likely. Instead, it will almost certainly become an “accepted” phenomenon that even “stretchy” soft tissues must be somehow capable of surviving for millions of years.

I am amazed at the faith of certain people, it would make fanatic fundamentalist out of them and in fact they are !
They keep on beliving against all odds .

    Bye friend !

As you can see, Paolo is pulling out all the standard Creationist/IDiot arguments that have been debunked repeatedly by better people than myself. Not much new here, but then that’s no surprise.

Hmm… Testing a hypothesis, making observations, adjusting the hypothesis based on your observations… There’s a word for that. What could it be…

    Science?

  2. Too bad Paolo doesn’t come out here so we can really hear what he has to say.  I bet it would be enlightening… oh oh

  3. Paolo and all the people I have encountered who have deep religious beliefs and believe in the world being only 6000 years old, literal word of the bible, creationism, etc etc. all seems to have one thing in common.

When you look at their thought process, whether it’s obvious or hidden somewhere, there seems to be a short circuit somewhere.

If you look at them very briefly and superficially they even makes sense but the moment you really start to really think about what they are saying the only conclusion you can reach is; “What the fuck?” raspberry

  4. Humans, Including the ones on this Board use somewhere around 5% of there brains. We are a species that is susceptible to fears in the worst ways. Just because many overcome certain fears about religion, does not give us the right to hold others to our standards of intelligence. If we really wanted to help these people we would deprogram them. They did not learn this thinking overnight, and fixing it may not take as long. But there is a science to it. Bashing them, Cursing them, really is counter productive. The Bible and the Koran contain many good things ( Life Principles ) but they over-shot the Mark. Dis-proving it in scientific theory is a start.    It’s the same with Santa Claus, Tooth Fiery’s.

If we can succeed, We would put an end to wars, In a very big way, Our Gloabal Safety depends upon us doing this.

  5. You actually spend time reading (never mind responding!) to such emails?  That’s quite odd, too.

As the old saying goes; the nice thing about pounding your head against a wall is that it feels so good when you stop.

Gunshot wounds to the head would be a lot less lethal if that were true.

  8. Yay, he stays!!!  Les can I have this one!  Please can I have this one.  For some funny reason, I just never get sick of these guys.  Let me at him.  I’ll show him how far creationist science has progressed.  There is a reason why God was removed early on from considerations when it was proposed that maybe there were a collection of various laws that ran the world.  It is funny how he states that science rejects evolution yet its writer is regarded as one of the most brilliant men in biology.

Maybe I am just too blood thristy to turn a fundy down.  Maybe that’s because when the scientific community turned a blind eye to them, they thought it would be easier to affect the public.

  9. I just posted his latest reply and invited him to continue the discussion in that thread if he still feels like making an idiot out of himself.

No reason I should hog all the amusement to myself.

How about antobiotic resistant Staphylococcus aureus?
