President Bush “frustrated” by lack of appreciation from Iraqis.

Sometimes I’m amazed at just how clueless our President actually is:

WASHINGTON, Aug. 15 — President Bush made clear in a private meeting this week that he was concerned about the lack of progress in Iraq and frustrated that the new Iraqi government — and the Iraqi people — had not shown greater public support for the American mission, participants in the meeting said Tuesday.

More generally, the participants said, the president expressed frustration that Iraqis had not come to appreciate the sacrifices the United States had made in Iraq, and was puzzled as to how a recent anti-American rally in support of Hezbollah in Baghdad could draw such a large crowd. “I do think he was frustrated about why 10,000 Shiites would go into the streets and demonstrate against the United States,” said another person who attended.

The current estimate on Iraqi civilians killed by the war we launched to liberate them is between 40,133 and 44,662—that’s not counting the ones killed from the sectarian violence that’s become such a problem as of late—and Bush is puzzled as to why an anti-American demonstration attracted so many people? There’s less than 10 hours a day of electricity in most of the country with Baghdad only managing 4 hours a day and they have yet to come close to the availability levels from prior to the war and Bush wonders why they don’t appreciate us more? Oil output is worse, access to clean water is worse, depending on who you talk to they’re either on the verge or in the middle of a civil war, and Bush is frustrated that there’s not much public support for America’s efforts over there?

What the fuck did he expect? That they’d great us in the streets with flowers and candy… oh… wait a sec…

  1. I’m not suprised, as he doesn’t get any sort of news other than what is filtered through his handlers.  Heck, he probably doesn’t realize his domestic approval rating is so low, they keep him so insulated.  That’s the real reason they don’t let anyone who doesn’t drink the kool-aid into Bush rallies.  If he ever found out how much people hate him, he’d probably start drinking again (if he hasn’t already).

  2. Maybe they thought the “love-bombing” that cults use was the same as just bombing.

Do y’all remember how we who did not support the President were “fact-based” while their “faith-based” version of reality was superior, because while we were reacting to the latest ass-hat thing they did, they would be off spinning some other reality?

Well, it doesn’t get much more real than Iraq, and all their faith and fantasies aren’t going to change the fact that the people there know we’ve killed a lot of people, destroyed their infrastructure and installed a puppet government.  When Bush visited they didn’t even tell the putative head of state until 5 minutes before the ceremony!  That is not the sign of a sovereign state, that is the sign of a vassal.

Anyone see the “what year is it?” opinion/theory?

I guess I’m in the 1979 camp.  Poor America.
