Bush’s approval rating worse than Clinton’s during his impeachment.

Is it wrong that this blurb about Bush’s approval rating on Eric Alterman’s MSNBC blog made me smile?

This just in:  The new ABC News/Washington Post poll, here, shows 52 percent of Americans disapprove of the job President Bush is doing overall, reports ABC News’ Polling director Gary Langer — the most in more than 75 ABC/Post polls since his presidency began. His approval rating is 48 percent.

Bush’s Iraq approval ratings haven’t fared much better:  41 percent said they approve of the job the President is doing in Iraq, while 58 percent disapprove — matching his career-high Iraq disapproval mark.

George W. Bush’s approval rating is now a full twenty points lower than Bill Clinton’s was on the day he was impeached.  Dear media, that means you gotta stop referring to him as a “popular president,” and no less important, stop treating him like one.  If you want to be wimps about everything, fine, just don’t blame it on his ‘popularity.’  Blame it on yourselves.

That does wonders for my optimism. Maybe the general population isn’t as completely clueless as they seemed to have been in the past. Maybe.

  1. and interns at the white house are getting weird looks from their commander in chief. perhaps a scandal and stain in the oval orifice may help his image . . . not like it could do it any more damage.

  2. Why was Clinton impeached and not Bush?  Simple: Bush is on top of a mountain of sheer concentrated power right now.  Which calls to mind one of my favorite quotes from a certain well-known Republican president:

“Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty”
    – Ronald Reagan

  3. Anyone else see that Bush and pals are getting the Patriot Act expanded? Looks like we are closer to a police state than before…

I happily extend two middle fingers to our idiot of a president and his corrupt cronies and corporate lapdogs.

  4. For those that have forgotten what a “real” President sounds like, maybe this will jog your memory.
Take careful note of each point stated that we should follow.
Then realize that the delusional psychotic that believes himself to be anointed by his fictitious Sun God to take dominion over the US has broken & destroyed each and every one of those.

Now back to the harsh, odious reality of what we are oppressed with today.

More to be disgusted about, skip to 6mins in to start. Will we hear this on mainstream media? Hell no, not until 10s of Millions of Americans force it.

This administration disgust me to the very core of my being.

If not for the Conservative Republican bias corp. news media, Dubya Christ would be forced to resign or face 100% certain Impeachment before summer is over.

the insanely conservative republican bias corp. news media in this country will say as little as humanly possible, unless a huge public outrage with 10s of millions of Americans boycotting both the stations/magazine/papers & their advertisers until they report it threaten to pull money from the bottom line of these 5 big Republican corps that own ALL the media in this country, then they will set Dubya Christ on a chunk of driftwood light it on fire and send him down the Potomac.

This is what happens when the FCC allowed all News Media in this country to be taken over by just 5 corps.
Used to be over 50 just 20 years ago.

“One of the intentions of corporate-controlled media is to instill in people a sense of disempowerment, of immobilization and paralysis. Its outcome is to turn you into good consumers. It is to keep people isolated, to feel that there is no possibility for social change.”

  5. Just to be on topic….W sucks.
And now…..Hey Les. This here sailor is coming home to Michigan for a couple weeks at the end of June and would like to buy you a beer…or a soda pop…or something. Do any of you folks hang out in a regular SEB approved diner or hole in the wall somewhere?

  6. This may come as a surprise to a lot of folks, but I lead a rather boring life. Don’t have any particular bars that I hang out in as I only tend to drink alcohol once every two to three months (if that) and I can’t stand the taste of most beers. I am partial to Long Island Iced Teas, though. I rarely drink to excess because I don’t like being out of control of myself, but I do enjoy the flavor of a good mixed drink so it’s not like I never drink. My brother has a few bars he likes to hang out in, though, so when I’m looking for a small drink I just pay him a visit.

Mayo, I’d be flattered to meet up with you. Where abouts in Michigan will you be visiting?

  7. Les,

Pay no attention to the PenetratingShaftOfTruthAndSemen; he’s simply upset because I beat him at our last game of Cripple Mr. Onion.
I was raised in Cadillac, but my family is now a bit further downstate. I have a brother in Sand Lake and a sister in Moline which is a blip south of GR. I think my Mother is currently living with a disabled woman as a rent free assistant turned slave labor prisoner. I need to get her out of there.
I’ll be there from the 29th through the 13th of July. It would be a hoot to meet you in person. Maybe we could take in The Fantastic 4 since you don’t drink much. I don’t drink a great deal either….practically nothing considering I’m a sailor. I like a nice Woodchuck Cider these days as beer has always tasted like Imp urine to me.
If you’ll have any free time, drop me a line at my regular e-mail address and we can maybe work something out.
        Take care everybody.
                      James Mayo M.

  8. Yeah I totally agree with you guys. Americans are idiots because they don’t realize that President Clinton was never impeached. Talk of an impeachment and rallies to impeach Clinton were held, but the actual process never happened. Who’s the idiot now?

    Apparently you.

Clinton was impeached on December 19, 1998. Don’t believe me? Check out these links….

  10. KPatrickGlover is right about the impeachment process. I suspect, however, that many are unaware of the difference between impeachment and removal

This article on the Cornell University web site provides an overview of the process. The House has the power to impeach (indict), the Senate tries the case. The Senate Republicans did not have the votes to remove Clinton from office.
