Haven’t done a quiz in awhile now and this one seemed pretty good so I figured I’d give it a shot.
You scored as Existentialist. Existentialism emphasizes human capability. There is no greater power interfering with life and thus it is up to us to make things happen. Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. Mankind is condemned to be free and must accept the responsibility.
What is Your World View? (corrected…again) |
I hadn’t really considered the idea that I was an Existentialist before, but in thinking about it further I suppose that it’s true. I do seem to have a ridiculous amount of optimism in humanity’s capacity to better itself despite all the evidence to the contrary that surrounds us in the daily news.
Found this one via Solonor who’s one of those namby-pamby Cultural Creatives.
Nice quiz, and now I have a name for my worldview, cultural creative. I think it was bang on with the description too.
Ooh, 100% materialist 88% existentialist 66% postmodernist and 63% modernist.
Wonder what it means if I am nearly equally post-modernist and modernist.

Not sure how the hell part fundamentalist crept in. Probably the question about religions drifting from their past or somesuch.

Pretty close to Les’s scores. Wonder where the 6% fundementalist came from?
Doh! I tried to take it and got hung up on the third question:
I have absolutely no idea what that means so could not answer. They needed a response of “Huh?” And how do I answer this one:
If I say I disagree, that means I think religions are doing great. If I agree, that means I think religions were doing great.
Other questions required answers far longer than the question itself.
No wonder I always did so poorly on tests. Never did find out what my world view is. (Who writes these tests?)
Hey! Us namby-pamby Cultural Conwhozits have feelings, ya know…
im pretty sure mine still means im lost and prone to much drivel..
Don’t worry, Qoayn. I don’t think that it means that you are lost and prone to much drivel. It just means that you know how to crash Les’s blog!!!
I got mostly the same as Les.
You missed a small bit of the HTML is all, Qoayn. I fixed it for you. No harm done.
DOF, I had no clue what that was supposed to mean either other than it sounded like if you agreed with it you’re of the Harmonic Convergence New Age sort so I disagreed with it.

Hmm, I wonder what results I would have had if I had been born in a different part of the world? Interesting thought for the day there..
I’m with decrepitoldfool. There are some VERY poorly constructed questions in there that allow for contradictory interpretations. There’s even at least one double-barreled question in which you could agree with half the question and disagree with the other (e.g., Religious dogma and scientific empiricism are both steps in the wrong direction.)
Whoever wrote this test never took courses on psychometric theory and test construction. Go back to the drawing board and try again, I’d say.
You scored as Cultural Creative.
Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.

Yep,existentialism for me! Theres just us;always has and always will be.The sooner folk take responsibility for thier own actions the better…BwahHaHa!
Yeah, I felt that way about several of the questions, too. I ranked as an Existentialist, but the difference in scores from my highest (Ex.) to my lowest (Fundamentalist) weren’t as wide as I thought they’d be. I guess it’s from burning those copies of Catcher in the Rye!

Hmmm. Another “cultural creative” here. From the sound of just those two words, we could be the hope of mankind. Other than that, I just can’t figure it out.
On another quiz, I scored as a “South Park Republican.” I tend to think of me more as a “South Park Moderate.” I pretty much hate both sides of the issues these days. Maybe that’s where the “creative” park kicks in.
Or I could just be sleep deprived and over-medicated.
Hey, make some room at the Existentialists’ table….

I like the part that says “Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. ”
Well, YES. I get “well that’s an awfully depressing outlook…” all the time, and I don’t understand what’s depressing about it in the least?! We ARE condemned to be free. And it is a vast, wonderful thing.
In that vein, I’d like to link to an Apple commercial that can actually make me cry. I wonder if the other existentialists like it as much as I do….
Here’s to the Crazy Ones
“They push the human race…forward”
I may have chosen some different ‘crazy ones’, my personal idols, but it’s a fine commercial nonetheless.
Yep, I’ve always liked that commercial and, yes, it makes me weepy cause I’m a big fat sap in that way. It helps it opens up with one of my personal heroes.
Ayup. Grabs me right in the chest first thing out of the chute.
I say I’d change some of the characters, but then again, I don’t suppose they have any news reel clips prior to the invention of moving pictures, huh?
I’d like to see Thomas Jefferson in there…and maybe Werner Von Braun, but I bet only Nasa geeks would know who he is.
Werner Von Braun. Wasn’t he the missile guy?
That is a great commercial. (sniff!) Excuse me, something in my eye here…
Yep.
His arrival from Germany was the genesis of the US missile and space programs. He built Redstone Arsenal here, then came Nasa, yadda yadda…. My town’s civic center is the Von Braun Civic Center, if that tells you anything. We have rockets and space shuttles as municiple decor.
His house is about a block from me.
Interesting. However, I don’t 100% agree with that. I do think there’s something out there ‘beyond us’, we just have no way of knowing what it is ….

So being a Christian I could look at the idea that I don’t like organized religion in the idea of how society defines organized religion. Or more clearly I don’t think the way Christianity is organized in this day and age is how it was ever meant to be, but I still follow my interpretation of it. I was hoping that fundamentalist would be higher up, but whatever.
brandi: This must mean I watch way too much History Channel?

Yes you do, Cindi!
Don’t be silly, you can never watch too much History Channel!! It’s the only thing I turn on the TV for…
Good to know I’m not alone. The History Channel and South Park. Not really sure what that says about me, but….
Used to also tune into TLC and the Discovery Channel, but for some idiotic reason they’ve become the all home improvement/all motorhead channels. Feh.
I’m an Adult Swim and History Channel JUNKIE. You oughta see my Tivo, it’s embarrassing.
I can’t fall asleep without hearing the narrator from History Channel. But it has to be a boring/rerun episode. If it’s too interesting, it keeps me up.
brandi, I am the same way. I have to have the History Channel on when I go to bed and it must be a rerun, or I’ll be up until it goes off-air at 4:00 a.m. They’ve been doing the Civil War all week, which doesn’t interest my a whole lot, so that helps.
My daughter thinks I’m nuts. I’ll have to point her to these posts. Thanks!
