Not much of an update.

Well folks I’m still unemployed so there’s not much news on that front. Contacted the travel job which is still the only “maybe” going and found out that the guy who makes the decision has been dragging his feet a bit though my contact assured me that once a decision was made either way she’d let me know. So now I’m kind of at the same point with this possibility as I am with the one with my old contract house in terms of setting any hope of it aside for the time being. Either one of them might come to pass eventually, but not soon enough to bank on it seems.

The weekly visit to the job bank websites is starting to be a lesson in diminishing returns as it appears that only one or two new positions will be posted from week to week. Fortunately they keep track of what you’ve applied for so you don’t look like an idiot applying for the same job several times. I’ve had a grand total of 0 phone calls for over a week now and it’ll be a full three months of being unemployed on the 11th. Thanks to everyone who helped out with donations and the timely start of unemployment checks it appears we’re going to survive the month for now. Might be a little short on a couple of things, but that’s still better than not paying anything at all. I need to figure out how I’m going to get my Grand Prix back into operational shape soon as the lease on Anne’s Saturn is up at the end of the month and, without either of us having a job at the moment, we’re going to have to turn it in rather than buy it out like we had hoped to.

Sleep has been elusive lately as has my desire to pay attention much to the outside world. This is why I’ve been neglecting the blog a bit and I feel bad about that after everyone has been so generous. I’ve been looking around to see if I could find a few topics to write about, but the stress of being unemployed tends to overwhelm any other emotions I might feel about what’s going on in the world. Normally I’d have written something about the idiot woman who decided to run off and claim she was kidnapped rather than go through with her wedding, but all I could do was shake my head at that news item. But I’m putting a bit more effort into finding stuff to write about so hopefully the amount of content I’m putting out will pick up a bit.

  1. I was unemployed for almost a year, had to move out of my apartment, etc, so I feel for you. A job, that isn’t exactly what I do but close, came out of the blue, hopefully that will happen with you.

  2. My S.O. is a union carpenter and hasn’t worked since April 2004 . Our meager savings have carried us through. Those are gone now and for the first time last month we had to choose what bills to pay and what ones blow off. No other choice.

    Shit’s getting scary out there.

  3. Les, have you tried the phone trick?
A year and a half ago I was unemployed and I might be going back there anytime soon.

I got like 3 weeks of training on how to find a job.
I am a good worker but I’m not good at finding a job….It’s an attitude thing supposedly.

45% of the people find their jobs through phone calls to companies using a few tricks to bypass the receptionnists who answer the phone.

40% of the people find their jobs through connections like agencies, family, friends, anybody.

The remaining 15% find their jobs through ads in the paper or the internet.

The numbers might not be the same where you live but they can’t be too far from that.

The phone calls trick does work even if it seems hard to believe….to be continued later tonight…the wife is screaming for me to go eat.
