Harry Potter news: “Goblet of Fire” begins filming and title of the sixth book announced.

Good news for those of you who, like me, are big Harry Potter fans. Filming for the fourth movie has just begun and the folks over at Film Force.ign.com have the low-down on the new faces we can expect to see join the cast:

Harry Potter: Goblet Underway

Many cast members from the previous films will be returning, and there are also plenty of new faces…  Joining the cast are Brendan Gleeson (Troy, Cold Mountain), as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Mad-Eye Moody; Frances De La Tour (The Cherry Orchard, Strike it Rich) portrays Headmistress of Beauxbatons, Madame Maxime; Roger Lloyd-Pack (Vanity Fair, BBC TV’s Only Fools and Horses) plays the Head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation, Barty Crouch; Pedja Bjelac (Eurotrip) plays Durmstrang Professor Igor Karkaroff; Jeff Rawle (Inspector Calls II, Baal, TV’s Drop the Dead Donkey) plays Amos Diggory; and David Tennant (Bright Young Things) plays Barty Crouch Jr.

New additions to the young cast include Robert Pattinson (The Ring) as Cedric Diggory; Stanislav Ianevski as Quidditch star Viktor Krum; Clemence Poesy (Bienvenue chez les Rozes, Petite Soeur) as Fleur Delacour; and Katie Leung as Cho Chang.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is currently slated for a November 2005 release, which should be enough time for me to see the last Harry Potter film. Currently, I’m the only one in my family who hasn’t which means I’ll probably have to wait until it comes out on DVD.

I’ll just have to take comfort in the announcement of the title for the sixth book posted recently on J.K. Rowling’s official website: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

According to Rowling, the title was originally considered for Chamber of Secrets. She says, “Certain crucial pieces of information in book six were originally planned for Chamber of Secrets, but very early on (first draft of Chamber) I realised that this information’s proper home was book six.  I have said before now that Chamber holds some very important clues to the ultimate end of the series.  Not as many as six, obviously, but there is a link.”

Rowling added that the Half Blood Prince is not Harry or Voldemort. Let the speculation begin…

Yep, got my anticipation mojo working on this one already.

  1. Who’s your vote for the half-blood prince? I have two: Dumbledore and Hagrid.

Hagrid seems a logical choice, though few people have mentioned it – he is a half-blood, just not a Muggle-born wizard. Hagrid had a fair bit to do with the plot of Chamber of Secrets, at least as far as the story with the spiders went. I wouldn’t be very surprised if Hagrid became a Prince of the Giants, as it were.

The second vote is for Dumbledore, but mostly because Rowling seems to have this theme of half-blooded/Muggle-born wizards being quite powerful.

    (captcha = coming)

  2. I have no doubt that it is Hagrid.  Why does Dumbledore keep him close?  He is clearly powerful eventhough he was never allowed to finish his training (although we all know he still has a wand, I am betting Dubledore does also).  Tom Riddle targets him specifically to blame for the deaths at Hogwarts, eventhough he never shows any proof that Hagrid was involved.  Since Aragog is never captured we are lead to assume that it was simply his words over Hagrid’s.  Maybe Volemort knows what he is.

This would mean his daddy is a king of some sort.  Not to sure where to go with that,  he was kind of a wierd dude.  Afterall he did get it on with a giantess.  The logistics on that one are mind-boggling.

    Peace,
    Potter fanboy

  3. Hagrid and Dumbledore are both good guesses for the identity of the Half-Blood Prince and both have occured to me. Has anyone thought that it might be Salazar Slytherin? I was just thinking what irony it would be if the founder of the “Purebood” house was himself a Half-Blood. Just a thought.

  4. Eden, I’m pretty sure (though I’d have to check) that it’s been confirmed that Slytherin himself was a pureblood. Though, of course, that could very well be dependent on who said it – it’s quite possible they were mistaken!

I’ve also heard theories for Malfoy. Mostly based on the fact that fanfic writers like to call him ‘prince’.

Still, she pulled that card with Voldemort – to do it again with another bad guy would be, I think, overkill.

  5. There are a lot of half-bloods out there and these are all very logical theories. But chances are(knowing JK) the HBP will be someone we least suspect. Hagrid does seem right, though. After all, he plays a rather important part in CoS, and JK said something very small in book 2 will be very big in book 6. Something hit me. Knockturn Alley. We didn’t hear much about that place in any of the books and maybe it will be an important plot point in six. And remember, Hagrid is the one who found Harry in there. What was he doing in there with all those evil freaks?

I hope its Lupin.(I know I know, he’s just my favorite character and I don’t think it will be him. I HOPE its him) JK did state him as being a halfblood. Then he is in 2 different ways. one muggle parent and some might consider werewolves as half-breeds. Then again, whats he got to do with Chamber?

  6. I love Lupin too. As far as how he could tie in with the Chamber…when the Weasley twins gave Harry the Marauder’s Map, they mentioned the 7 passages out of Hogwarts, and said that one was caved in. Obviously a reference to the same cave in that happened when Harry, Ron and Lockhart were on their way to the Chamber. Perhaps Lupin at one time used passages other than the one under the Whomping Willow to leave Hogwarts and stumbled on some information about the Chamber. A stretch, but it’s all I’ve got.

  7. I really hope its malfoy.he is my fave character and if he found out he was a half blood he would go mental which would be really cool.also i have a question was that skinny guy the hung out with crabbe and malfoy in the third movie supposed to be blaise zanbini

  8. wel, i think its hagrid…
as just what others have said, hagrid is really one of those characters who we know is important but has not been shown totally in any of the books…
he’s just been given small parts on the past few books but now, i think we will know more of his importance in harry’s life just like how the dursley’s portrayed a significance in harry’s life as explained in book 5..

  9. the half blood prince could be dumbledore beause he is a very important character   or the half blood prince might be someone totally unexpected like someone like seamus or dean if they’re half blooded.

  10. i think it might be hagrid also because jk rowling never explaines why hagrid was in knockturn alley and also because it says in the fifth book that hagrids mother died but it didn’t tell you much about her at all and also about hagrid’s brother.

  11. Dawn, I suggest you read the book, because if you do, then you’ll discover that it’s…

Hehe, no way am I gonna spoil that for you.

Anyway, read. The book has been out for over a week already!

  12. That book. The end. Oh. Em. Gee.
I saw “Sky High” last night (which was way better than it had any right to be, imho) and they showed a preview for the Goblet of Fire movie. Didn’t show too much, but what they did show looks awesome. A shot of the maze at the end, a shot of a mermaid, and a scene of Harry fighting the dragon all looked spectacular. Definitely more in the Cuaron than the Columbus style, from what little I saw.
