Yesterday was Courtney’s birthday and she has officially reached her last year prior to officially becoming a teen ager. So I took a half-day off from work and came home for her party and just generally tried to make myself useful in dealing with a boatload of Court’s friends who had all come over to help her celebrate. It all went pretty well I must say, of course it probably helped that they all wanted to watch The Lord Of The Rings as their movie choice which pretty much ensured that the first three and a half hours of the party were largely uneventful. As it was they didn’t have time to finish the movie as the party was due to end at 4PM and Courtney still hadn’t opened her gifts so we stopped the movie at 3:30PM and did the B’Day thing. Everyone seemed to have a good time and there was even a last minute squirt gun battle out on the front lawn to help make up for the lack of swimming which was the original plan. I generally stayed off of my computer for the day, hence no entry on the blog.
This morning I’m tired as we stayed up until just before midnight watching Collateral Damage as it’s due back today, but otherwise in good spirits. It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 12 years since Courtney first came into my life. Harder still to believe that in just 11 days I’ll will be turning 35. I know that’s still considered “young” by many standards, but the first tell-tale gray hairs in my beard showing up in the past year are already making me feel old. Courtney will be driving in another 4 years. We’ve already been told which high school she’ll be attending (assuming we’re still in Canton). Within the next 10 she will have already won the Nobel Peace Prize and then within the next 15 the Pulitzer Prize. Hey, I can dream, can’t I?
