A thread over on Reddit shows a sign that one drug store felt was necessary to curtail some inappropriate shopping habits:

In the comments at least one person suggested that the reality is probably that someone got caught trying to steal condoms by opening a package and stuffing the contents in their pockets who then lied and said they wanted to try one on. I really hope that’s the case, because the thought that there are people out there shameless enough to try a condom on in the middle of a store before buying it is more than I can wrap my head around, if you’ll pardon the pun.

I’ve been around long enough that I wouldn’t be surprised if someone were actually doing a test fitting before purchase, but I don’t understand the thought process that allows one to think this is a perfectly acceptable thing to do. Then again, I don’t understand the thought process behind the act of taking a picture of your junk and sending it across the Internet to strangers you barely know which seems to be all the rage among young people and certain Congresscritters either. Admittedly I don’t have a body most folks would want to see naked in the first place, but once that pic is out there it’s out there forever where it can come back to bite you in the ass someday.

My brother-in-law shared this video on Google+ and I just had to repost it here. It’s a show out of Japan where, according to the description on the video, they “lay out lots of pots on the floor so that they can watch the kittens snuggle into them for naps.” Plus they add in cute sound effects when the kittens swat at each other or do something silly.

I’m illiterate of the Japanese language so I have no idea if this is all this show does or if it’s just one segment in a parade of ridiculously cute things they show or whether it’s aimed at kids or adults. I’m just amazed it gets air time at all and I have to wonder, only half jokingly, if this is why they have a lower crime rate than we do? Who could do bad things after watching so much cuteness?

Whose a cute-wutey kitten? Who is? YOU is that’s who!

When I go to bed at night I often leave my PC on with the monitor turned off and I usually leave Firefox running at the Google homepage. Given Cuddle’s propensity for walking on my keyboard every chance he gets, this results in some interesting Google searches awaiting me upon waking the next morning.

I’m not sure what I find more impressive. The fact that Google is able to match such a ridiculous query to actual pages or the fact that it has an equally ridiculous alternate search suggestion.

If this were a real product it would outsell every other drug ever.

For the past several weeks I’ve been driving past a billboard on the way to work that appears to be advertising the latest wonder drug. It has a picture of a ditsy blonde woman twirling her hair in her fingers with the message: WHO NEEDS TALENT WHEN YOU HAVE REACHEMOL™? Every time I’d see it I’d wonder what the fuck it was supposed to be about. I doubted it was an actual drug, but perhaps it was an attempt at viral movie advertising? You know, where they take a fake company from some film and put out ads that appear to come from said company as a way to attract attention. I kept meaning to Google it when I got to work/home from work and by the time I arrived I’d already forgotten about it, which shows you the length of my attention span.

Then I noticed a second billboard for this “product” which you can see reproduced below:

Two billboards along the same stretch of highway was just enough to keep it lodged in my brain. So this morning I finally got around to doing a Google search to see what the hell it was all about.

As it turns out, it’s not for any kind of a real product though the (hilarious) webpage for REACHEMOL™ is designed to look like it’s a new wonder drug to treat “Deficient Popularity Disorder”:

REACHEMOL™ (popularitus maximol) is the only prescription medicine clinically proven to treat Deficient Popularity Disorder (DPD). In all but the most severe of cases, REACHEMOL™ will increase your popularity so much that people will actually like you, instead of shunning you like an Old Testament leper.

REACHEMOL™ is a prescription medicine used to:

• Increase popularity
• Boost self-esteem
• Become more attractive to the opposite sex
• Win elections
• Sway juries
• Weasel your way back into the will

And it goes on for a bit like that with pictures of celebrities that use the drug like Nicholas Cage, Paris Hitlon, and William Hung who is most famous for being a terrible singer on American Idol.

Of course it’s not a real drug, but a clever bit of marketing from the folks at Adams Outdoor as reported by the folks at Ad Rant:

Deficient Popularity Disorder? Yea, if that just caused your bullshit alert to explode, you’d be wise to listen to it. You see, though it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for a money hungry drug company to invent it, there’s no such thing as Deficient Popularity Disorder and there’s no such drug as Reachemol. Nope. It’s all a stunt from Adams Outdoor which is hyping how a well executed billboard campaign can make your brand “the talk of the town in 30 days or less.”

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a faux campaign like this one. And we miss them. properly executed, they are hilarious and, at the same time, deliver a strong message. Nice job, Adams Outdoor.

When you stop to think about the name, REACHEMOL (Reach Em All), you wonder why it didn’t occur to you previously. But it certainly caught my attention and (obviously) got me talking about it. The billboards themselves are vague enough to leave you curious enough to search them out on the Net and the website they put up for it is amusing enough to put a smile on your face.

Not to mention the palpable sense of relief you get from realizing it’s not yet another bullshit woo-woo homeopathic remedy being foisted onto the general public.

Speaking of seeing things that aren’t really there…

I especially love the fact that whoever snapped this pic of the screen managed to find the one moment where it looks like he’s rubbing it with an apropos expression on his face. Though it does appear he’s been castrated.

Still, when you’ve got one that spans the better part of a state or two I suppose you can’t help but show it off.

Usually when making public appearances these two tend to go solo, but this time they decided to team up for the ultimate venue: a tortilla!

A Starr County family is wondering if a miracle took place in their kitchen on Tuesday afternoon.

Short answer: No.

Melinda Solis told Action 4 News that she was warming up flour tortillas for her teenage sons after school around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Solis said she was spreading out the cooked tortillas when her mother noticed something unusual.

One of the tortillas had a large brown spot that resembled the Virgin Mary holding the Baby Jesus.

Actually, when you really look at either picture closely, they both seem a little... phallic.

How can you not see that this is the work of an all-powerful God with a message which he feels is best distributed on semi-burnt bread-like food? What other possible explanation could there be?

The La Grulla area woman said they are not sure if they are going to call a priest just yet.

“It’s safe as long as I keep it away from my sons…as long as I keep it away from butter,” Solis said.

For as we all know, the only vulnerability Jesus and his Mom have are to teenage boys armed with butter!

A lot of Christian churches go all out for Christmas and do their best to bring the myths legends alive for their congregations. Often this involves making use of live animals in a Nativity scene or skit, which is fine when you’re doing it outdoors, but a lot trickier when you move it indoors:

Don’t be mad at the camel, he was just trying to do the right thing and sit in a pew like all the other congregants.

Can you imagine being killed in church from having a 1,100 pound camel falling on you and then having to explain that to Saint Peter at the pearly gates? If God does exist he has a twisted sense of humor.

Got a review copy of CoD: Black Ops and I’m playing through both the single and multiplayer to get a feel for writing a review. My score in the multiplayer matches has been quite a bit worse than what I was managing under Modern Warfare 2 and I’d like to say it’s entirely due to it being a new game or the known performance issues on the PC version of the game, but it turns out there’s an entirely different reason:

I can haz noob tube?

It’s some weird tiger-stripped tumor on my left arm interfering with my mad keyboard skillz. This is at least a little better than when he tries to help by walking across my keyboard as I’m trying to shoot someone. Say what you will about Melvin sitting in front of my monitor, but at least he never walks across my keyboard. Nor does he have to investigate every single mug of coffee or glass of soda I have sitting on my desk.

Still, hard to be annoyed at something so damned cute.
