To be honest, I never understood most of the reasoning for not letting gays marry…doesn’t effect me in the least so why would I be against it?

I really do wish they wouldn’t make “negative” laws where you voting for it, is actually voting against something.

Kahvi, the official ballot title was literally: Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry.

So, no, I don’t think they thought they were voting for gay marriage. The title is pretty unambiguous.

I think it’s disgusting that a basic human right can even be put up to a vote.

What if there was a proposition on the ballot to roll back the Emancipation Proclamation?

ETA: I am NOT suggesting that banning same sex marriage is the same as slavery.

It also violates the 14th Amendment of the Federal Constitution.

It should be brought to the supreme court and be ruled unconstitutional. This law should be rescinded!

Like Olbermann I too have no idea why people voted yes… It is nice to see someone comment on it though.

Why not?

Same sex couples are paying the same taxes as anyone, by regulating them into second class citizenship the portion of taxes they pay that goes to support the benefits of marriage (such as SS survivor benefits) are not benefiting them. Therefore however many hours they work to pay for that portion of taxes is slave labor.

Any taking that is not reimbursed by some compensation effectively makes slaves of people, at least for the value of that taken.

The silver lining to the cloud is that Focus on the Family is laying off 20% of its workforce after putting around $600,000 of support into backing Prop 8.  Apparently fighting gay marriage is bad business these days.  Article here.
