View What is theism anyway
Theists believe in the existence of one or more deities (as well as the inexistence of thousands of others) and a deity is that in which a theist believes.
There are many attempts to define ‘deity’; some amount to gibberish ("god is love"), others an attempt to define a god into existence. A commonality among the definitions that approach coherency is that a deity is deity is a postulated being that happens to be immensely more powerful and/or knowledgeable than we are. This immediately raises a question of epistemology - any being sufficiently more advanced than we are could convincingly fake or even pass tests for godhood. How do we tell the godlike from the gods?
