Boo hoo! School cancelled because the temperature is -10 degrees celcius? When I was about 8 or 9, you didn’t have go outdoors during recess when the temperature was below -20 or -30 (can’t remember which), there was no talk about school being cancelled due to winter. Just put some more clothes on and you’ll be fine.

I didn’t realize Michigan was used to such balmy weather. My school district refused to close for such things - as Flaky said, it’s simplest to put on more clothing.

That says nothing for exposed areas or frostbite mind you, but it takes much longer to get in serious trouble when you’re adequately dressed. Cover up, wind at your back, march.

I think he enjoys it, one of those people who needs conflict and who wouldn’t feel too comfortable if everyone actually liked them, at least behind an avatar. To withstand insult so easily, he must have a pretty hardened mind in some respects - in terms of his seeming immunity.

I havn’t been watching conversations with moloch too closely but I havn’t yet seen him try to really hurt anyone, he’s not appearing to me to be the judgemental type, rather I expect he’s used to being on the recieving end, hence his immunity

Febuary always seems the coldest month and the one where we’re more likely to snow, which seems strange to me, maybe seasons are shifting

I live in Charleston SC and the 2 months of the year I dread the most are September and February even though the one should be cooling down the year and the other should be warming the next one up.

I bitched because it was 28 degrees last night. I may be moving to New York state later in the year and my pampered ass is gonna die.

Up here in Sunny Wisconsin, the temps in the negatives in the mornings and single digits the rest of the day.  I pass a bank on the way to work.  It said -1 yesterday in the morning and 1 in the evening on the way back.  This friday, they say it will get up to 11 and then drop back to 8 on Saturday.  A veritable scorcher.  I must remember not to get too overheated on Friday.

Here in IL it is just damn cold!  Yesterday morning it was below zero before the wind chill.  BRRRR!!

Webs, we used to live in Chicago. I still have my commuter coat stashed away somewhere.

The coldest I ever felt, it probably wasn’t below 25 degrees f.  But I was soaking wet and in a moving car with no roof.  (takes another sip of hot coffee just thinking about it) It was summer and we weren’t expecting snow.

When I was a kid they rarely canceled school over cold temps, but these days it seems more common and I think part of it is just to use up unspent Snow Days that they’ve planned for.

There’s a chance he’s having us on, but if what he writes here is an accurate reflection of his personality, I would go so far as to say that we’re dealing with a possible sociopath. Even more of a reason to ignore everything he has to say. If it were my blog, he’d have been banned ages ago.

Regarding the cold, it could be far worse. Granted, I can’t complain too much here in California, but I talked to my friend in Wisconsin over the weekend and she described in great detail the -35 degree weather she was experiencing. I think I got frostbite just listening to her.

When I was in school, my school district was a walking district. I had to walk a mile to school. Despite this, we almost never had snow days. Now the same district has buses. The kids just have to stand outside for 5-10 minutes to wait for the bus. We are on our fourth snow day this school year.

Its the X-Gen Bastards… They want everything handed to them and they can’t do anything on their own.  They’re all a bunch of lazy…  Oh shit that’s me…

Then, realizing that they are not metric, I re-thought about them. Maybe that is kinda cold. But then again, I am living in Canada’s North- Today I just finished working outside at a mine site with an air temperature of -33 C, never mind the slight breeze. My daughter has her school outside breaks and lunch indoors when temperature or wind chill drop below -30 C. 
Yes, you are lucky to have such pleasant temperatures.

swordsbane is in a different part of WI than I am, but Sexy Sadie’s friend might be my neighbor.  Last weekend it was around -10F with around -30F windchill.  I get to walk through that weather at 2am.  Radio djs don’t get weather as an excuse not to go to work.  Our high today was 13F it was so warm I only had three layers instead of four and went without gloves and head/face covering.

Like so many uneducated people I wondered why it would be so bad if there was a 1 or 2 degree planetary temperature increase.
It was answered yesterday on PBS with an uncomplicated metaphor - imagine your own body’s temperature increasing by 1 or 2 degrees.

And, I’m talking Celsius degrees here as Fahrenheit doesn’t quite equate in Oz anymore. I can’t remember when we changed - in the late 70s is my guess. I started work in the water industry in the late 70s and I remember how quickly I got it. A lot of the old storemen still ordered in Imperial and it became effortless to convert to Metric.
Celsius seems to make so much more sense - Zero is freezing and 100 is boiling.
