Where are those haunting eyes now?

Back in 1985 the folks at National Geographic did a story on Afghanistan that was the feature article for that issue. On the cover of their magazine they had a picture of a young Afghan woman with penetrating green eyes and a haunted look that became an icon or symbol of a people struggling to survive. It was a startling image and remains so to this day. Apparrently they’ve received letters over the past 17 years asking what became of the woman and just recently they managed to catch up to her again.
