Well, a bill requiring the federal courts to operate within the jurisdiction given to them by the United States Constitution doesn’t actually sound all that bad ... but the bill certainly is.  It’s constitutional, and all that (since the Constitution allows Congress to designate most areas where the courts can operate), but it’s a crappy-ass bill indeed.

Actually, things like this usually backfire. The majority of Christians don’t want religion in government , including prayer in school and they generally find this kind of thing extremely distasteful. It even causes people that tend to be conservative, especially moderates, to not vote Republican. This stuff also gets proposed in state legislatures all of the time and doesn’t pass even in Republican legislatures.

However, I don’t mean that we should ignore it. We should continue speaking out, writing letters and showing our displeasure in the voting booth.

Queen Mille....how do you cipher that the majority of Christians do not want prayer in school?  Why wouldn’t Christians pray in school.  It is not against the law to pray in school, for any religion.  In our school, we have 1 minute for a moment of silence each day before class begins.  Our students from elementary through high school take that 1 minute to pray for the parents, teachers, nation and friends.  Prayer IS in school.  There are even schools in dallas that allow time for muslim students to observe their prayer rituals. No there should be no law making anyone pray, or worship any particular God, but their should not be laws that prohibit it either.  i am not sure if you are christian, but rest assured you do not speak for the majority.  with that said.  if you are a christian, just because we disagree does not make me a better follower of Christ than you nor does it give an opinion that you are not real or anything like that....rhema, shalom

Anyone can pray anywhere, but we don’t need to spend five to ten minutes of official time at school, work, or at the ballpark participating in
‘organized religeon’. When I went to school (’40s-’50s), we had the Pledge of Allegiance, (no ‘under god’,then) a bible verse or two read by the teacher and the Lord’s Prayer.

In high school, a different student picked out and read a bible verse or two each day in homeroom. Since I grew up in the country, and the only difference in religion was Baptist, Methodist
and, in high school, a Catholic or two thrown in.
No one thought anything of this ritual. 

However, the best thing that happened since
(not counting the obtrusive ‘under God’ thing),
is NOT having any religious ritual in schools, workplaces or anyplace but churches or other gatherings of like-minded (or like-religious)
people.

Keep your ‘God’ in your life, your heart, your
religious services. Don’t inflict them on people
who don’t share your beliefs.  How many millions of humans have been killed over the millennia because this simple ‘formula’ wasn’t followed?
Unfortunately, religion tends to breed fanaticism, which breeds Kill the Infidelism.

haveayen...so you subscribe to the keep God in church theory.  a religious person can do such a thing, but a Christian can not.  it would not be the honorable thing to do.  a christian shows his love for Christ and others by loving them openly, not behind closed doors.  besides this site would would not exist if we kept our beliefs to ourself.  again i am not saying you should pray, or that i should pray for you, and i am not saying that we should shut down school, traffic, or the oprah winfrey show to recognize prayer.  i am saying the opposite.  i am saying do it, and its being done without making a show.  that prayer is in school, politics, the streets, hey its even in the web-site!  i have permission from those that post on this site to put them on my prayer list.  what is wrong with 2 christian teens getting together at lunch in school and praying. whats wrong with a group of guys on break at work praying or reading a scripture?  other things go on at work and school whats wrong with a little prayer? i guess i just dont understand the offense especially if you feel there is no profit or power in it....nothing written intended to offend.

Some of my best friends are Christian and anyone can pray anytime they want , anywhere they want as far as I’m concerned. Just don’t sanction it by the government (and yes the school is the government) and don’t expect me to participate, bow my head or keep silent while you do it. Pray away.

Of course you can always claim that if someone doesn’t agree with you they aren’t really a Christian but we’ve all heard that before too.
