Well this is interesting. Someone going by the name Champe has nominated SEB for consideration in the 2008 Blogger’s Choice Awards in the categories of Best Geek Blog, Best Blog About Stuff, Best Religion Blog, and Best Blog of All Time.

Needless to say I’m quite flattered though I don’t suspect we have enough of an audience to win any of the categories we’ve been nominated in, it’s still nice that someone took the time to nominate us just the same. Apparently there was a 2007 Blogger’s Choice Awards that I completely failed to hear about and I have no idea if we were nominated in that contest or not. If you want to vote for us in any of the above categories you’ll need to register an account at the site. I’ve not done that myself yet so I’m not sure what’s involved in it and I’m debating whether or not to put the little voting badges they offer on SEB to encourage people to vote simply because I’ve not heard of these folks before. If it brings a few more folks around to check out the site, though, then that’ll at least be helpful.

It appears that this contest is being put on by the folks who run PayPerPost which is somewhat controversial for paying bloggers on behalf of marketers to write about stuff the marketers would like bloggers to write about. Here’s the ad copy from their site:

Advertisers: PayPerPost delivers online word of mouth marketing, brand building and traffic generation through the world’s largest consumer generated advertising community and marketplace.

Bloggers: Get paid for blogging. Write about web sites, products, services, and companies and earn cash for providing your opinion and valuable feedback to advertisers. Disclosure required.

I remember when this company and another similar one were making the news and blog rounds when they first hit the scene and there was a lot of debate over how ethical paying bloggers to write about specific topics really was. Personally as long as they require disclosure on the part of the blogger, as PayPerPost does, then I don’t see a problem with it. Just the same I’ve never felt compelled to sign up for it myself. It appears the Blogger’s Choice Awards is as much an attempt to raise awareness of PayPerPost as it is an attempt at a legitimate award contest thingy of some sort. Just the same it’s kinda cool that SEB was nominated for recognition.

Beware the beast man, for he is the Devil’s pawn. Alone among God’s primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother’s land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home, and yours. Shun him, for he is the harbinger of death.
