I couldn’t help but notice that number of invites I have for Gmail accounts recently doubled in number. Most of the time it sits around the 50 mark, but the other day it jumped to 100. So if any you folks want a Gmail account then all you need to do is ask and provide an email address for me to mail it to. Don’t know if there’s that many people still looking to get into Gmail, but here’s your chance if you are.

There is a problem with leaving a visible email address as it leaves us vulnerable to scammers and phishers. As an example I got a couple of messages to the unique address I left here, one of them being a rather nasty phishing attempt at extracting my ebay login and password.

And the answer to this seems to be to fill in the URL field, it is the address that will be associated to the name, and I guess only Les will be able to get the email address.

ExpressionEngine encodes all email addresses it displays using JavaScript so that should help protect against most harvesting bots, though I suppose there’s nothing stopping the harvesters from decoding the JavaScript.
With my PC being offline I got a bit behind in sending out requested invites, but I should be caught up as of now. If you’re requested one and still haven’t gotten it let me know and I’ll send it along. Surprisingly enough this still wasn’t enough to drop me below 80 invites left.
