In reference to, “U.S. Army recruiters caught lying to potential enlistees.”

I’m not surprised, it has been about 20 years since Vietnam, the same thing happened then as now. But who cares? No one remembers and no one cares, any lessons learned as a nation has been forgotten. One stupid generation gave over to the next stupid generation, and history repeats itself, over and over and over.

The same national scams and lies told then, even 20 years ago, are repeated now and believed. Just like the Roman government, 2,000 years ago, promised to “non citizens” fight for Rome in the army, and you also can gain your citizenship, the USA is not any different and the value of thoughts has price tag.

To those that die, let us wave a flag, and think all is better now, and the next stupid generation will be just as stupid as this one. There is one satisfaction in your old age, you get to see the idiocy of humans retold as an old wore out joke.

“And you also can die for god and country”, and the person has no idea what god is nor country.

“Don’t ask and don’t tell”, and if you do answer and you do ask; lie like a rug, and we thought such a phrase was only for the gay, NO, it is a motto for living.

It’s an outrage for sure that this still continues.  I would have thought changes would have been made after this happened.

“When Jared first started talking about joining the Army, I thought, `Well, that isn’t going to happen,”’ said Paul Guinther, Jared’s father. “I told my wife not to worry about it. They’re not going to take anybody in the service who’s autistic.”

But they did. Last month, Jared came home with papers showing that he had not only enlisted, but signed up for the Army’s most dangerous job: cavalry scout. He is scheduled to leave for basic training Aug. 16.

Jared required extensive tutoring and accommodations to pass, but in June he will graduate alongside his younger stepbrother, Matthew Thorsen.

Last fall, Jared began talking about joining the military after a recruiter stopped him on his way home from school and offered a $4,000 signing bonus, $67,000 for college and more buddies than he could count.

“I said Jared, `What are you doing?’ `I’m taking the test’—he said the entrance test. I go, `Wait a minute.’ I said, `Who’s giving you the test?’ He said, `Corporal.’ I said, `Well let me talk to him.“‘

Brenda said she spoke to Cpl. Ronan Ansley and explained that Jared had a disability, autism, that could not be outgrown. She said Ansley told her he had been in special classes, too—for dyslexia.

“I said, `Wait a minute, there’s a big difference between autism and your problem,”’ Brenda said.

Recruiters are just like any other sales critter trying to put lipstick on a pig.  Recruiters have ridiculous quotas and the pool of enlistment age West Virginia mouth breathers is drying up. 

The reserves were activated long ago, military members are working insane hours, leave is being canceled, tours are being involuntarily extended, and queers are being kicked out.  Unless the US abandons Iraq very soon, the US will need to instate a draft—possibly as soon after this election is over.  If they do instate a draft, it might be interesting to see how many draftees all of a sudden discover that they are gay.

If I’m just after some basic info it’s usually the first place to go to; opinions are elsewhere. 

After reading the replies to this...I must ask a few questions.  First, how is it that a group of recruiters telling lies to possible recruits or undercover students reflect a failure of Bush as Commander In Chief?  Can you explain how you can make such a leap?  Second, one stupid generation after another stupid generation? Well, I don’t consider myself stupid, but apparently you consider yourself stupid, so why should anyone place any faith in anything you would write here?
Next, I agree that to lie to these people is totally unacceptable, but you cannot categorize all recruiters based on a handful, that would be prejudging the entire recruiting service from all the Armed Forces. The morale of the troops is highly commendable and most people sitting in front of their computers would have no idea what these people are going through, how thoroughly they believe in what they are doing and their commitment to remain there...many (including myself) would never hesitate to go.  The military, unbelievable as this may seem to some, is capable of more...we are fighting basically three wars (Afghanistan, Iraq and Korea--which hasn’t actually ended).  We could easily go into another spot if required...maybe Iran next.  However, more than likely, we will just try to destabalize that country’s government through bombings just like they are doing in Iraq. Last thing...a draft is not necessary and will not be.

Actually, there is not a war in Korea; it’s a sort of détente.
War is where people are guaranteed to be killed regularly and without fail - similar to Iraq ... but that’s not really a war either, it’s an occupation.

And, as far as Afghanistan goes – only the Afghanis have ever won in Afghanistan – it has never been conquered (for long) and it never will be.
