I’m awake a lot earlier than I had planned or expected to be this morning and it’s all thanks to a sore back. We were supposed to go up to see my folks today for dinner, but my legs are still stiff and sore so I called last night and let them know we wouldn’t be up as the drive wouldn’t have done my legs any favors, but my back had been feeling more or less OK for most of the day yesterday. So it was with some surprise that I woke this morning to a sore back that I couldn’t get comfortable no matter what position I tried to lay in. What’s really odd is that it’s not sore where it usually gets sore, which is the lumbar region, but in the thoracic vertebrae up around where my ribs attach to my spine. This is a new back pain that’s only started showing up within the past few months and I think it’s because I have a habit of sleeping on my right side with my right arm up under my pillow supporting my head. What’s odd to me about this pain is that if I get up and spend a little time sitting in a chair, like I am right now, it settles down and goes away. I’ve been up about an hour and a half and spent most of that time watching various news shows on TV showing all the various Christian related news items they’ve managed to cobble together because, well, it’s Easter and all, including the various Christians who are whining about how the Easter Bunny has taken center stage over Jesus Christ — just like that bastard Santa — and so they need yet another Jesus is the Reason we stole the Pagan’s holiday from them for the Season campaign, but more on that later.
I generally tend to sleep on my sides these days because I’ve got too much belly to sleep on my tummy and I find it impossible to sleep when laying flat on my back for some reason I can’t quite fathom. Unless I’m sitting in a reclining chair, only then I can sleep on my back. I seem to be having more back pain when sleeping on my sides, though, so I’ve been trying to figure out a good position to sleep in that allows me to drift off quickly and not lay on top of either arm and won’t suffocate me. So far I’ve yet to find it and that makes sleeping difficult at times, which is annoying cause I really enjoy a good nights sleep.
Especially if it’s Easter morning.
