Up early on Easter morning.

I’m awake a lot earlier than I had planned or expected to be this morning and it’s all thanks to a sore back. We were supposed to go up to see my folks today for dinner, but my legs are still stiff and sore so I called last night and let them know we wouldn’t be up as the drive wouldn’t have done my legs any favors, but my back had been feeling more or less OK for most of the day yesterday. So it was with some surprise that I woke this morning to a sore back that I couldn’t get comfortable no matter what position I tried to lay in. What’s really odd is that it’s not sore where it usually gets sore, which is the lumbar region, but in the thoracic vertebrae up around where my ribs attach to my spine. This is a new back pain that’s only started showing up within the past few months and I think it’s because I have a habit of sleeping on my right side with my right arm up under my pillow supporting my head. What’s odd to me about this pain is that if I get up and spend a little time sitting in a chair, like I am right now, it settles down and goes away. I’ve been up about an hour and a half and spent most of that time watching various news shows on TV showing all the various Christian related news items they’ve managed to cobble together because, well, it’s Easter and all, including the various Christians who are whining about how the Easter Bunny has taken center stage over Jesus Christ — just like that bastard Santa — and so they need yet another Jesus is the Reason we stole the Pagan’s holiday from them for the Season campaign, but more on that later.

I generally tend to sleep on my sides these days because I’ve got too much belly to sleep on my tummy and I find it impossible to sleep when laying flat on my back for some reason I can’t quite fathom. Unless I’m sitting in a reclining chair, only then I can sleep on my back. I seem to be having more back pain when sleeping on my sides, though, so I’ve been trying to figure out a good position to sleep in that allows me to drift off quickly and not lay on top of either arm and won’t suffocate me. So far I’ve yet to find it and that makes sleeping difficult at times, which is annoying cause I really enjoy a good nights sleep.

Especially if it’s Easter morning.

Ummm...I am a little nervous to mention this but Christians really didn’t just steal Easter from the pagans. First, let me note that I am a true believer (little letters; no trademark).

Actually the Christians celebrated the resurrection on the Jewish holiday of Passover. This is why the date is always screwy because Easter’s date is determined by Passover’s date according to the Jewish calendar.

I know that the name “Easter” was taken from the pagans. But at least give us credit for ripping off two different cultures for the same holiday!

Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home, and yours. Shun him, for he is the harbinger of death.

You sound like you need one of those adjustable beds… You could sit and sleep all in one!

Welcome to my world son.  I could say it is because you are pushing 40. That sitting at a computer twists the back out of shape. Maybe a new mattress is in order.  Or maybe all those ****** are playing with voodoo and sticking pins in your doll.

But I really think it is the 40’s thing!!!!

Fall Downed, don’t take this as bashing because that’s not my intent, but Easter was pretty much looted from the Pagans starting with the name of the holiday itself. Rather than go into a lengthy argument here, though, allow me to provide you with the following link to peruse at your leisure.

Seph, I’ve considered those beds, but I think I’d really like to try one of those Tempurpedic beds as I’ve heard some good things about them from people that own them.

One things for sure, I do need new mattresses of some sort. If I could get working at a decent job for more than 2.5 months that’s one of the things I’d like to buy. Along with a house to put them in.

I sleep on my right hand side, but when very tired it can be the left or sitting down (I have fallen asleep standing on the train, only to wake a second later when I fell over). I’ve heard people tend to adopt a kind of fetal position when on their side which may explain it as an instinct thing. I cannot sleep on my back and I would suffocate sleeping on my stomach

I sleep on my left side, facing the wall to minimize light. Failing that, I sleep on my back and bunch my flimsy pillow up so it supports my neck and the base of my skull (nothing else!). Lately I’ve been very very sleepless, but I’m seeing a doctor about that and some other unusual symptoms.

I find sleeping standing up or hanging upside down to be a bit of a bother. Other than that…

I realised something - Notice how people adopt something close to the recovery position sleeping on their side - this might have been evolutionarily intended to stop people dieing asleep

Upside down is a bit of a bother
