Unintelligently De-lined

I promise the title’s pun is the unfunniest thing about this story.

There is a rich, deep kind of irony that must be shared. I’m blogging this from the Apple store in the Mall of America, because I’m too amused to want to wait until I get back to my hotel room.

I went to attend a screening of the creationist propaganda movie, Expelled, a few minutes ago. Well, I tried … but I was Expelled! It was kind of weird — I was standing in line, hadn’t even gotten to the point where I had to sign in and show ID, and a policeman pulled me out of line and told me I could not go in.

I’m still laughing though. You don’t know how hilarious this is. Not only is it the extreme hypocrisy of being expelled from their Expelled movie, but there’s another layer of amusement. Deep, belly laugh funny. Yeah, I’d be rolling around on the floor right now, if I weren’t so dang dignified.

The real surprise is in the full posting: Expelled! at Pharyngula.

Read more: here and here and even here.

I saw an article on Richard Dawkins site.  One of the comments struck me as a very good summation of the “incident”

An intellectual and PR debacle: seeing these Creationists in action is like watching someone eat their own head. It seems impossible but, here we are.

Just read the story about it in the St Paul Pioneer Press.  They didn’t recognize Dawkins, so he was able to get in.  I wonder if the movie folks were looking to stir the publicity pot with this?

Yes, I saw this already, and would have posted it here, if RD hadn’t beaten me to it.  Got a belly laugh out of me.  Swordsbane- “eating their own head” is as good a description of these Creationist shenanigans as I’ve yet heard.

By the time I went to PZ’s site last night it took me about four hours to read through the posts. It was the happiest four hours of my life. What a hoot!  LOL  LOL  LOL

Oddly, my husband (who usually pays attention to other aspects of politics) had the word before I did.  I shouldn’t be surprised--like these morons could find their @$$e$ with both hands and a double-mirror to begin with.

IIRC, Ben Stein’s first claim to fame was as a speechwriter for Nixon.  If he didn’t learn “framin the issue"--meaning outright lying--there, where else would he learn it, for Pete’s sake?  (At this hour of the night, I’m too lazy to Google, but has Stein even held a real job since the Nixon Administration?)

What bothers me is that 20-30 years from now, we’re going to see the same things from the cluster@#$%^^&* hacks of the current Regime.  People who have long since lost the ability to be productive members of society, and thus have to resort to playing in the freak-show of the Right--which we know d---ned well will be in full vigor by then, these things being cyclical an’ all.

Honestly, the days when Mom tried to teach me to feel sorry for braggadocios like this seem so long ago…

I’m sorry, U have to reconsider my position, and I think you should all do so too.

It is obvious evolution is wrong.

No one as stupid as the film producers could have evolved, they would have been wiped out. They have no self preservation instinct.

Pehaps that’s the new tactic- act stupid to prove only creation allows something that stupid.

No, stupid people exist because us smart humans have to protect them.  The necessary evil of community is that you are encouraged to protect everyone who isn’t a direct threat, no matter if they contribute to society or not.  Therefore, stupid people who would otherwise be killed and eaten in the wild are kept alive (and thus able to breed) in the name of compassion and an ordered society.  The reason we have so many stupid warning labels on things is not to protect people from the product, but to protect the product manufacturers from idiots who don’t have the brain power to know that you don’t remove toast from the toaster with a fork while the toaster is plugged in.  Unfortunately, that means we’re also saving them from themselves.

In the wild, a lot of otherwise intelligent religious folks would die too because they would rely on God to protect them when others would run away from the starving carnivore.

No.  The existence of stupid people is not evidence for intelligent design.  It is an example of evolution stalled.

Besides, an intelligent designer making stupid people doesn’t say much for the intelligence of the designer.

Perhaps we missed the product recall notice.
