Step one: draft loony-tunes legislation requiring marriage for pregnancy
Step two: wait for more level thinkers to prevail, trashing the bill in committee
Step three: give the bill a more friendly name during the campaign season, and dun your opponents for being “against marriage”
Step four: dust off hands, your work is done

HOLY FUCK!  They can’t actually expect this bill to pass.  And if it did, I can just see the majority of whitebread WASP in Indiana not even blinking.  Sure, maybe only “the right kind” of married couples will be able to have reproductive assistance at first, but we all know that if the American Taliban and Christian Reicht get their way, they’re gonna try to make a law so that any reproduction will have to be approved by the state.  I wanna believe that this is just typical right-wing show and flare that everyone knows will come to nothing except a waste of time and resources, but I can actually see this bill getting passed and creating a slippery slope.  *Sigh*  When does the stupidity end?  :-(  What frightens me the most is that I used to think like this:  I clearly remember being a teenager and thinking that people should not be able to procreate until they could prove they were mentally, emotionally, and financially capable of taking care of their kids.  I still do, actually, but the issue is who decides these standards of capability.

(D) Education.
(E) Employment and income.
(F) Hobbies and talents.
(G) Physical description, including the general health of the individual.
(H) Birth verification.
(I) Personality description, including the strengths and weaknesses of each intended parent.

(7) Description of any children residing in the intended parents’ home.

(8) A verification and evaluation of the intended parents’ marital relationship, including:
(A) the shared values and interests between the individuals;
(B) the manner in which conflict between the individuals is resolved; and
(C) a history of the intended parents’ relationship.

(9) Documentation of the dissolution of any prior marriage and an assessment of the impact of the prior marriage on the intended parents’ relationship.
(10) A description of the family lifestyle of the intended parents, include a description of individual participation in faith-based or
church activities, hobbies, and other interests.

(11) The intended parents’ child rearing expectations and values.

I find it disturbing.  Do prospective adoptive parents have to undergo this?

Probably, from what ive heard from people who adopted (very little, so dont trust me on this) it’s a fairly invasive thing.

This is just…. urg….. irritatingly stupid.

Looks like it’s back to offering smart university students a few grand for them to knock you up.

I wonder if they’re really just trying to encourage single women, who want children, to sleep around more?

This is the kind of crap that makes me wary.  What if whoever is in charge decides that some woman whose family hails from Iran won’t make a good mother?  Once the bill is passed who’se to stop the idiots in charge from saying that Wicca isn’t a good enoygh religion on which to raise children, or that atheists won’t make good parents?  What’s to stop the committe that decides who is fit to exclude interracial couples the ability to have reproductive assistance?  I’m sure there is a lot of archaic research that suggests interracial children are more likely to have psychological problems, and I can see the reicht using this to their defense.  What’s more, if you are denied, will they tell you why, or just send the standard form letter saying you don’t qualify 9even credit card companies send you the name of the credit check company)?  A history of intended parents’ relationships?  What do they want, every guy a woman dated in college?

Doesn’t this count as a violation of women’s rights??

There’s no way this bill will pass. Nauseating as it is I’m going to trust common sense on this one.

I’m still crossing my fingers and joping its just a hoax anyway.

Still, ‘strengths and weaknesses’? Whats that to do with parenting (except maybe if someone has a weakness like ‘beats kids when stressed’ but he wouldn’t ever put that in the form anyway)?

But if there was a harsh questioning about weaknesses, I’d say 50% of the world wouldn’t have come into being, because one or both of their parents wouldn’t have qualified.

Ah well, IF it is real, and IF it passes (I don’t think so) it will will be something others ridicule and use as a warning.

So which part of the Constitution gives congress the power to pass such legislature?

If there is such a part (hint: there is), who can such laws apply to? (hint: federal districts)

If arbitrary law restricting freedom and liberty is legal to federal districts, why is it applied to the people of the several states of the union? (hint: certain documents establish one as a federal citizen, subject to the whim of congress)

This type of legislature cannot apply (by law) to those who are one of the people of a particular State within the United States as congress has extremely limited powers over such individuals.

Somewhere along the line, it seems that people have accepted that we are a legislative democracy rather than a republic.

Anywise, although it borders on madness, there are two types of citizenship in our country: federal citizens and citizens of one of the several states of the united states of america.

Until people stop declaring themselves to be the former, they will continue to be subject to the authoritarian laws of congress rather than the laws of the constitution of the united states of america and the constitution of their state of residence.

Yes, I realize that this is “conspiracy theory” stuff…but it really does not take a lot of digging to see the truth of it. Take a good, hard look at the constitution of the united states of america…and it becomes abundantly clear that congress has no power to create most of the laws passed with respect to anyone other than federal citizens. Some might claim that the constitution is outdated…but to the best of my knowledge it is still the supreme law of the land and has not been torn down and replaced.

Some good information on this type of thing is available at SupremeLaw.org. As always, be critical of what is read…but try not to dismiss it simply because you have always been told different. Even if you do not believe a word of it, it is quite interesting.

Ok, I live in Indiana, and I am a 22 mother of the most amazing little two year old ever.  I was not married when my child was born.

If I EVER heard about this legislation while it was actually in the discussion, I would have made the hour drive to Indy and freaked out in their lobby.  I’m telling you right now, I have heard NO ONE speak of this, not on the news, nothing.  I’m shocked.  I’m disgusted.  This is the most vile thing I’ve heard of in a long time.  And I agree with one of the first commenters that most of the people in the great Hoosier State would just turn their heads the other way and pretend it doesn’t affect them.  Do realize that we’re not all corn-fed, downhome hicks.  There is some intelligence to be found, but I’ll tell you it’s not in our state legislature.
