Looks like the folks at Yahoo! have managed to land the trailer for Tim Burton’s remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring Johnny Depp and it’s looking pretty tasty.
The original film starring Gene Wilder is one of my favorite films simply because it gets so surreal at times and it seems to bug so many people. I think it’s one of Gene Wilder’s best roles and I make a point of watching it whenever it’s on TV. Now that I think about it, I don’t have it on DVD. I’ll have to make a point to correct that oversight.
Anyway, I’m usually not overly thrilled when plans are made to remake a film I think already stands the test of time, but in this case if it has to be done I can’t think of a better pairing than Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Most of Burton’s films already have a similar surreal quality to them and turning him loose on a story like this one is sure to put him into overdrive. It helps I’m a big fan of his movies as well. Of course, it could still turn out to be the suck, but the trailer has me optimistic.

I watched the trailer this morning, and I must confess that there’s something disturbing about Johnny Depp’s costume & make-up for this movie. I can’t quite figure it out, but I was unsettled.
Or maybe I’m just reacting to the idea of a remake.
