I watched the trailer this morning, and I must confess that there’s something disturbing about Johnny Depp’s costume & make-up for this movie.  I can’t quite figure it out, but I was unsettled.

Or maybe I’m just reacting to the idea of a remake.

I love the original and usually I have problems with remakes as well, but I really, really love Johnny Depp and Tim Burton is a genius.  So this one has potential, at least.

The book was so outstanding, as was it’s sequel, “The Great Glass Elevator”, that I’m hoping they use this opportunity to make the movie even better.  Remaking the film is one thing, but I’m hoping they are re-making the book instead.

We have the Gene Wilder version on DVD. It’s one of our favorite movies of all time. (Man, Violet grew up to be a hottie!)

I’ll approach this new one with caution… but then again Tim Burton proved me wrong (and even surprised me) with Michael Keaton as Batman… so I’ll give this new movie a chance.

All time favorite book & movie! I actually let out a Woo-Hoo of joy watching the trailer! I was scared it might be bland and mainstream,but I detect a twisted quality the story demands;especially how he’s done the Oopmpa-Loompas(my favorite part) If anyones interested,theres a brilliant episode of Futurama that takes its own special slant at the story “Fry and the Slurm factory” - Best line uttered apon seeing the Oopmpa-Loompas(Gronka-Lonkas) - Hey,I dont pay you guys to sing.You just used up todays bathroom break!

I was totally unsettled, too, but that’s awesome because the original is one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen in my life.

I’m totally impressed, despite having reservations when I’d initially heard about it.  This thing looks to have some promise.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I have always loved the pairing of Burton and Depp ... they are made for eachother.

Rumor was that Marilyn Manson was originally cast for the part of Wonka, but the Dahl family had a corronary over the idea and would only allow the remake if Depp played it… any confirmations of this yea or nay?

Either way… Depp rocks.. the makeup and costumes are pure Burton brilliance ... cant wait to see this !

It’s the teeth!  He’s got these blindingly white, absolutely perfect set of choppers that are somehow just, as you said, DISTURBING.

I loved the book, I loved the “Willy Wonka” movie and who can’t love Johnny Depp?  I’ve got high hopes… if Johnny Depp and Tim Burton can’t make a brilliant film version of a Roald Dahl story, then dammit, no one can!

I’m a pretty big Tim Burton fan.  “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is definitely an all time favorite and his short “Vincent” was genius.  I am certain this movie will rock and I intend to be first in line to see it in my area.

As much as I love the Gene Wilder movie, and it is one of my top 5, it is not overly true to the book.  Supposedly, Burton’s version is supposed to be more loyal to the story. I read an interview with Johnny Depp and he seems very excited to make a movie that his daughters can watch and enjoy.  I think that’s a good sign.  Plus I love Burton’s work.

Here’s hoping.

That movie poster makes Willy Wonka resemble Alex from A Clockwork Orange just a bit too much for comfort.

No, I’m afraid not. I wonder if there’s someplace online that info like that could be found? There’s gotta be someplace where they track release dates for around the world, right?

It’s his pallor.  That milky-white complextion against that auburn hair is surreal.  Of course, you’d expect that from someone who’s spent ten years locked in a chocolate factory with no sight of the outside world.  Nice touch, IMO.

I noticed a lot of the imagery seems fairly gothic.  Not like we normally think gothic, but drastically contrasted.  The pictures of the candy canes seem classic Tim Burton.  We picture perfect candy canes and the ones in the movie have these strange seemingly imperfect twiggy extensions.  I really like simple unique images like that.

Ben, I was thinking *the exact same thing* and it was freaking me out just a little.

I saw the original on video when I was about seven and had Oopmpa-Loompa nightmares all night. I got up the next morning and immediately watched it again.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the trailer, but I’ll be there nevertheless. If anyone could pull of this remake, it’s Depp and Burton.

I’ll be interested in seeing the remake as well as everyone else, but I will admit, Johnny Depp’s makeup and costume completely freak me out.  Hubby made the connection to the Clockwork Orange poster that someone else made, but my mom had the worst observation: he looks like a child molester.  *shudders*

OK.  I just watched that trailor 5 times in a row.  After careful study, I have reached a conclusion that will shock movie-loving audiences everywhere.  Look carefully at “Johnny Depp.” Check out the hair.  The shape of his face.  The outlandish clothes.  The strange mannerism.  The fact that he’s surrounded by children…

I submit to you good people, that Willy Wonka is NOT actually being performed by Johnny Depp as Burton would have us think.  No!  Watch the trailer again very carefully.  I think you’ll agree that Willy Wonka is actually being performed by none other than…

MICHAEL JACKSON!!!!!!!!

Now, watch that trailer again...and try to get THAT thought out of your head!  Bwaahahahahahah!
