Either there’s a lot of unrepentant sinners attending church these days or God really hates contemporary Christian rock music:

More than 40 injured after floor collapses at church concert in B.C. - CBC News

More than 40 people were taken to hospital — three with serious injuries — after the floor caved in at a packed concert in an Abbotsford, B.C, church late Friday night.

“We were dancing in the front of the stage,” Kyle Weber, a teenager who was at the Christian rock concert, told CBC News. “The floor just collapsed. All the speakers just fell down [and] crashed a lot of people.... A lot of people fell through the floor.”

[...] A mosh pit in front of the stage was filled with teenagers, she said, and they were jumping and dancing. After the lighting fell, the floor beneath the mosh pit collapsed, she said, and the people on it fell through to the basement about three metres below.

About 1,200 people were watching the concert at the church, at 1661 McCallum Road, she said.

[...] Ian Hern, a youth pastor at the concert, said there were hundreds of youth jumping and dancing at the time.

“All of a sudden, one of the light poles started to tilt and then the whole floor just caved,” Hern said.

Some of the young members in his group suffered injuries such as a broken arm or a dislocated shoulder, Hern said.

“Obviously, the church floor wasn’t built to handle that number of people,” Hern said.

Or perhaps there was a thirteenth commandment: THOU SHALT NOT PARTY IN THE HOUSE OF THY LORD!

Is anyone else as amused by the idea of a Christian mosh pit as I am?

No doubt someone someplace even as I write this is reading that story and thinking that its proof God thinks rock music is evil and punished those poor kids for their “sin.”

Who could blame Him?

I guarantee there will be people saying; “It’s a miracle more people weren’t hurt.  The hand of God was protecting us.”

This reminds me of the churches that regularly get hit by tornadoes here in the South.  I mean, shouldn’t the tornado lift up and “jump” over the church before it goes back to smiting?  I don’t know.  I’ve actually been to Abbotsford in my short career as a truck driver, the people were really super nice there.  I’m glad no one was killed and I hope the people who were hurt have a speedy recovery.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned on SEB before, but I heard it mentioned on the radio and I found it to be quite true.  Aren’t quotes such as the one decrepitoldfool mentioned a bit non-uplifting for those who were injured?  I mean, sure God may have felt the need to “protect” many of the people but what about those 40?  Did he not want to protect them?  And what about when people make the comment, “God must have a plan for them” in reference to some people living through some thing and others not. Did God obviously not have plans for those that died? And it’s not like it’s always older people who don’t make, it’s young ones who you think would have plenty of things “planned” for them by God.  Just makes you wonder if people making those kinds of statements really think about the connotations of the statement.

I guess that is what you get for placing your life in the hands of a carpenter.

Our old family bible has several enties along the line of “May 1734 - heavy floods came over the village and swept away several houses and people. MAY GOD NEVER CAUSE SUCH A THING TO COME OVER US AGAIN. April 1744, fire burned down our house. MAY GOD… “ [Emphasis mine]

Not to say that our family was particularly unlucky, but apart from births and deaths, that’s what they noted down in the family bible....

Excellent points Chief, and I think you hit the nail on the coffin. They don’t think. They make excuses to keep their belief system in tact.

Are you trying to tell me their minds may be made up so they refuse to accept any facts to the contrary? Why that’s like the Catholic Church claiming that the sun rotates around the earth - the Bible says so! How can you looney scientists try to tell us otherwise? Shame on you.  snake

thats exactly why many people are maintaining their religious view , in psychology believes are hard to change because humans are always afraid of the consequences of the change while believes which are associated with fear are extremely hard to change because the human would believe that the consequences of the change are absolutely negative as for how the human has aquiered such a believe is far too complicated to be explained in this comment but we also know that believes can alter observation and by doing that the believers believes get stronger.
it takes too much intelligence and an open mind to change believes and you only need ignorance to maintain any believes.

Well, Joey, I do know: the Laws of Physics are spitefully ignoring the Word of the Lord.  But the smiles will be wiped from their faces when they face Eternity in Hell.

What are you on, chief?  If I weren’t saved, I’d want some of it too!  Of course God protected the injured.  After all, they could have died, and gone to Hell, because they were dancing.  But God, in His Unimaginable Mercy, has granted them a reprieve, that they might sing His Praises and Spread the Word.  Hallelujah!
