Thinking of launching a side-project.

The person who was maintaining a list of Michigan Blogs has apparrently abandoned the project and I was thinking of taking it on myself. I wrote them an email asking if that would be OK, but haven’t heard back so I’m going to assume it shouldn’t be a problem. Several other states have their own blog listings and it’s a shame that Michigan has lost the only one I was personally aware of.

So unless someone points out to me someone else who’s already picked up the torch, I’ll be putting up a page dedicated to it soon.

Have you thought about starting a Michigan Blogs ring? I think the Colorado one uses ringsurf.com. That way you wouldn’t really have to maintain it other than approving sites.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing that in addition to the site itself. I wanted a simple page where folks could grab button links and such as well. I’m still kicking it around.

Look at what we do in Oregon if you want ideas:

http://www.orblogs.com

The guy does a pretty good job, and it’s (for the most part) fully automated with geographic stuff, etc… .

Got ya. Let me know if I can be of any help…no longer in Michigan, but visit frequently. Still miss my beloved Coney Island though.

Thanks everyone for the offers of help. As I get a clearer idea of what I’m going to do I may end up asking for a bit of a hand.

Not a very big ring, but Michigan does have a blog ring at http://www.miblogs.com/

Hmmm. Thanks for letting me know about that. I suppose I should have done a search before setting up my own ring. grin Not that there’s many in my ring yet. No one, in fact. Well, aside from myself. Perhaps I’ll look that one up and see if they’re doing anything with it.

Wow, I checked that link out and they are a rther selective bunch:

To become a member of this webring, you must meet the following requirements and site criteria:
1)  You are at least 18 years old.

2)  You have an e-mail address.

3)  You maintain a website which is, or contains a weblog, online journal or photolog.  Personal web sites will be considered as long as there is some element of journaling or recording of events.

4)  Your weblog / journal / photolog is updated at least once a week and currently has entries at least one month old.

5)  You were born in Michigan or are living in Michigan at the time your site is submitted.

6)  Your site contains…  no offensive material…  no pornography…  no bigotry…  no hate…  no illegal content…  No exceptions!

So who says what is offensive? I am sure a ton of what I say is offensive to someone. I would bet SEB wouldn’t be allowed on the list.

This is true, based on number 6 I doubt I’d be allowed in as well cause I have “naughty words” on my website. Suppose it’s not so bad I started my own ring then. Coolness. I will move forward with what I’ve got then.

By the way Jake, I checked out the ORBlogs site and I must say that it’s pretty damned cool. I’d love to do something like that myself, but it may take awhile for me to figure out how. I think I’ll start off simple and then improve it over time.
