Halloween is almost here and as such you may be looking for a few haunted houses to get in the spirit. Thats where the list of 13 Haunted Houses That Will Make You Wet Your Pants comes in. It lists off the top 13 haunted attractions for those of you who like to be scared silly as entertainment and provides links to their respective websites.
I was very surprised to see a local attraction make the list. Erebus Haunted Attraction is a massive four story haunted house in my home town of Pontiac, Michigan that has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s Largest Walk-Through Haunted Attraction in 2005. What’s particularly interesting to me about Erebus is that I’m quite familiar with the building it’s housed in—an old abandoned parking garage/retail space that back in the 1970’s used to house a flea market. My parents used to run a side business making candles that they called Tranquility III and we had a booth in that old parking garage during the 1976 Bicentennial celebration that took place in Pontiac.
Apparently for the past five years it’s been reborn as this annual haunted attraction every Halloween and it’s good enough that it has attracted national attention (it scored number 9 on this list of 13). Unlike a lot of haunted houses out there these days this one has fully interactive exhibits that make you a part of the scene. At least one scene contains a giant six foot dragon mouth that actually eats some of the patrons. There’s a pretty good writeup of it here PDF file.
