The scary part is this man was chosen by Schiavo’s parents to examine Terri Schiavo for the court, yet he can’t even correctly examine the credibility of his nomination. Oh, wait, he probably KNEW that he wasn’t correctly nominated, which leads me to wonder what he really knows of Schiavo’s chances.

Probably not much.

Well, it shows that no matter how desperate you are, you can always find someone to tell you what you want to hear give you hope and take advantage of you advocate for you.

What an opportunistic scumbag.

So to review what I’ve learned today: 
Terri is doomed
Michael is a decent guy
Hammesfahr is a quack
Terri’s parents are corrupt
The media in general is doing a terrible job of reporting the fiasco
and the US is going to be a lot closer to anarchy after this whole mess than it was before.

Terri’s parents are corrupt

I wouldn’t say they’re corrupt. I’d say they are highly delusional about her condition, which is not impossible to imagine for any parent ( except she has liquid goo where her cerebral cortex used to be), and I think they’ve let this battle come to identify them. I think without this fight, the media, and Michael to rail against, they wouldn’t know what else to do with themselves.

I’m not a fan of Michael, either. I don’t know what to believe about him and ultimately, it doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that Terri died 15 years ago, medical technology got her corpse breathing, heart beating, and head growing hair again. But it cannot regrow the brain that has been replaced by liquid. It’s gone.

For me, it hardly comes down to what ANYONE wants, Terri, Michael, or her parents. The woman is dead, but still breathing. I think euthenasia should be legal and would certainly be in order here.

Though technically, shouldn’t she have died on Friday, so she can rise from the grave on Easter? Details, details. I’m sure they’ll make the story fit one way or the other, even if it takes a shoehorn and a tub if vaseline.

I find it humorous how many death threats Michael Shiavo has received.  Then there was also a comment from a “Save Terri nut” saying that the Florida judge should have his hands tied behind his back and forced to watch his son murdered.

And here’s another one I’m sick of hearing “it’s illegal to starve a dog to death...”

Tom DeLay, addressing the Family Research Council pretty well put to rest any doubts that the unconstitutional involvement of Congress in the Schiavo case, and the ensuing publicity, is nothing more than an opportunity to whip up support to further the Dominionist agenda:

It is a critical issue for people in this position, and it is also a critical issue to fight the fight for life, whether it be euthanasia or abortion. And I tell you, ladies and gentlemen, one thing that God has brought to us is Terri Schiavo, to elevate the visibility of what’s going on in America that Americans would be so barbaric as to pull a feeding tube out of a person that is lucid and starve them to death for two weeks. I mean, in America, that’s going to happen if we don’t win that fight. So it’s bigger than any one of us, and we have to do everything that is in our power to save Terri Schiavo and anybody else that may be in this kind of position.

And let me just finish with this. This is exactly the issue that’s going on in America, of attacks against the conservative movement, against me and against many others.

Indeed.  America needs to ignore reports of wrongdoing on the part of her “leaders” and focus on trashing the sanctity of the Schiavos’ marriage by vilifying Michael Schiavo for doing whatever he can to honor the wishes of his wife not to live by artificial means!

Right. It’s also illegal to euthenize a human. I’d prefer Terri could be euthenized, then she’d at least be on par with an animal (isn’t that the point they’re making, we’re treating her worse than an animal?)

Come to think of it, animals do have better options. Too bad religious dogma has infected our political system to the point we won’t even allow Terri to go as gently and quickly as a dog via the magic blue shot.

We must look like barbarians to the rest of the world.  The woman has been kept alive against her wishes for a decade and a half.  Then when we finally decide to do what she wanted, the only way we can think of to do it is to stand by while her body dies of starvation and thirst.

Why?  Because we’re too squeamish to push the plunger, though the outcome will be the same.  That would be “crossing the line.” We get skittish as a rattler-spooked horse whenever we have to deal with, well, icky stuff like birth or suffering or death. 

One big exception, though - we don’t seem to mind killing people with guns and bombs.  Man, we eat that stuff up.  (Fox News’ ratings are proof of this) We’re pretty keen on killin’ prisoners, too, since they’re usually guilty.  Oh, and when a cop shoots somebody, we wouldn’t want to second-guess him, since it was a split-second decision an’ all.

I guess it’s OK to kill as long as you have angry intentions.  Not for any other reason.

How about “God made me do it,” . . ummm, “The devil made me do it,” . . ummm, whatever
