Remember Kent Hovind? Of course you do. The last we heard everybody’s favourite creationist nutbar and his creationist nutbar wife were looking at spending the foreseeable future preaching from behind bars. Well, Hovind’s sentence has been handed down, and it’s pretty much what everyone expected.

10 years for ‘Dr. Dino’

Pensacola evangelist Kent Hovind was sentenced Friday afternoon to 10 years in prison on charges of tax fraud.

After a lengthy sentencing hearing that last 5 1/2 hours, U.S. District Judge Casey Rodgers ordered Hovind also:

—Pay $640,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.

—Pay the prosecution’s court costs of $7,078.

—Serve three years parole once he is released from prison.

Hovind’s wife, Jo Hovind, also was scheduled to be sentenced. Rodgers postponed her sentencing until March 1 to allow her defense attorney an opportunity to argue possible discrepancies in sentencing guidelines.

Prior to his sentencing, a tearful Kent Hovind, also known as “Dr. Dino” asked for the court’s leniency.

“If it’s just money the IRS wants, there are thousands of people out there who will help pay the money they want so I can go back out there and preach,” Hovind said.

Hovind, founder of Creation Science Evangelism and Dinosaur Adventure Land in Pensacola, was found guilty in November of 58 federal counts, including failure to pay $845,000 in employee-related taxes. He faced a maximum of 288 years in prison.

Jo Hovind was charged and convicted in 44 of the counts involving evading bank-reporting requirements and faces a maximum of 225 years in prison.

Kent Hovind, who is incarcerated in the Escambia County Jail, will be assigned to a prison by the Bureau of Prisons. Rodgers recommended Kent Hovind be sent to the prison at Saufley Field in Pensacola so he will be close to his family.

It will be up to the Bureau of Prisons, however, to make that determination.

Would it be considered in poor taste to gloat a little over this? Maybe, but that won’t stop me.

You know I respect your comments, all of them and I thank decrepitoldfool for correcting me, I meant +/- 10^999999999% error.  You guys must of thought I said +/- 1% error that is impossible.  I respect all of the spelling comments but fairy tail comments I do not get that much.  If you are telling me that evolution is true then maybe I might think that I did really came out of the chimp’s behind, well I wasn’t there to witness it because even if I was it would have been in a cave somewhere, and you can not see in the dark.  Oh wait we had owl eyes back then I get it, this evolution thing really starting to kick into me.  The rock gave birth to the planet and all of the stars and to bacteria which later hooked up with Lucy to produce kids which were chimps and then later I somehow crawled out of chimp’s abs to become a human because Lucy did it with the rock or bacteria to produce kids.  Wow what a powerful theory.  Now I see why so many people follow it.
Define evolution- theory so (evolution^1 + theory^1 =fairytale^1), that I can believe but the Bible is just like Kent Hovind my hero states it.  Watch the first five minutes of his tapes and you’ll find out.
Let me tell you, you guys just wish that the Bible was a fairy tail because at the end of the road there’s a stop sign and everyone will stop and answer for what they’ve done if it’s good then its good if it’s bad then I am not the judge.

Same ol’ “My god is gonna fuck you if you dont kiss his ass”. Come up with something original Mr. Garrison.

And what the fuck are you trying to accomplish here anyway? You obviously dont have honest questions to ask. And if you’re trying to convert any of us it’s a hopeless cause. Come up with soething original and we might listen to you (not that you’ll ever have anything worthwhile to say). Right now you’re just repeating the same old tired creationist bullcrap that we’ve heard many many times before.

Kent Hovind is your hero? Even a chimpanzee would be ashamed of having a common ancestor with that arch-moron. Go ahead….live in your delusional world. But you’re wasting your time here.

Is that what they are telling you the theory of Evolution is nowdays in church?  Why, when I was there, it was just a lie by Satan to make man think he was an animal and thus shouldn’t be responsible for his actions (hmmm…not responsible for his actions…Jesus washes away all sin…Naw, it can’t be the same thing).

I didn’t think it was possible for you to make yourself look even dumber Konstantin.  I am however starting to think you are being satirical, especially after reading that one Kent Hovind site that Boisterous Bastard posted earlier: Kent Hovind Fan Club, Yeaaaah!

You should check it out Konstantin, it looks like it’s right up your alley.

konstantin - You need a kicking, you don’t treat the subject with any seriousness, you’re not even trying to either convince us or think about evolution seriously. Refusal to deal with an issue rationally is intellectual cowardice.

We will happily explain evolution if you’re willing to deal with and, maybe seriously challenge it, even give you a chance to explain in rational terms why an alternaive is more likely, but until the point where you’ll deal with it seriously don’t waste my time.

It’s an easy thing to just say it’s stupidity, but it’d just polarise him more and not give a reason to think that our view is any better, it’d be a bit like the cold war on a religous front- two ideologies staring at each other in disgust but making no progress to actually sorting the situation out or working towards an end.

konstantin is not dealing with the issue properly, maybe he isn’t able to yet, but if we could get him to, then it’ll work towards my goals at least, and be good for him. I never take the easy option of writing people off as idiots as both sides do, because that way makes no progress when progress can be made.

It’s not often I get through to people but it does happen sometimes, at least I do make progress with those I work with. Nothing will change if we simply stare down the other side indefinitely, it just don’t change anything.

It remains clear that Konstantin hasn’t a clue about what he attempts (and fails) to comment on so there’s no point in addressing him.

The day he’s able to recite a concise and accurate description of the Theory of Evolution is the day we might be able to have a discussion, but it’s clear he’s just a dumbass with too much time on his hands.

OK, Konstantin, one thing at a time.  The idea of a chimp giving birth to a human reveals a deep misunderstanding of how evolution works.

Suppose a species adapts to its environment in small ways.  One adaptation, then another, then another. The adaptations allow the species to move its range into increasingly more distant ecological niches, in which arena they select for increasing morphologically distinct adaptations, which further pushes their niche range…

With enough changes, how does it not become a different species?

I was thinking I rule my mind with a bit of an iron fist, when I said:

me: Refusal to deal with an issue rationally is intellectual cowardice

Because I push myself hard to try to understand stuff and, unless people do force themselves to deal with my points I cannot make progress

However I’m starting to run away from situations in life I do not feel able to handle, or that would be painful, because I’m worn down. I think there is a place for mental forcing, but only so far before a break is needed.

Julian- you really shut me down.
decrepitoldfool-I got the info from my biology teacher.  I don’t know why he brought up evolution because biology is the study of life and not theories.  Oh wait, the government made it mandatory.
Bog Brother-Do you know why Kent Hovind got arrested?  You read all the stuff about him from the people that hate him.  What else would you expect?  Kent Hovind is my hero and he is innocent.  Let me tell you, he is.  Government tried to put Kent Hovind down as soon as he started telling the truth to the people.  And when I saw his tapes for the first time I thought wow the government must really hate him.  And government finally found a reason to arrest him.  He was paying cash instead of checks.  Arrest everyone else who does that then.  If government want’s you to shut up they will.  But no prison or anything else will shut Hovind down because how can you shut down the truth?  It’s impossible.  Kent Hovind will be back even if someone threatens to kill him because if he doesn’t then he’s a coward.  Kent Hovind stands up to what he says.  Every word.  (Yes the Blood can clean him and everyone else who repents; It will wash all your sins away.  But is that what Kent Hovind or Christians say?  I will sin and do anything I want and then I would be forgiven if it did then everyone would be Christian.  But that is what evolution says do anything you want you’re just a specie.
Bahamat- What is the best argument for evolution being true?  If anyone got it then go to Kent Hovind and tell him that and if the statement is true he will gladly hand over the $250,000 in cash then.  Or maybe will now have to write you a check.  You can tell me as well, I just want to know what is that that is holing you guys in this theory.  Or makes you believe it’s true.
Les- You might be right that I can not tell all of the evolution theories correctly mainly because they change from day to day.  But having too much time is not where I’m at.  When ever I’m free I go and write the truth to you guys but that is like once in three days if I’m lucky.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter what the fuck you say, it matters what you do.  I see very few “Christians” actually walk the walk, but they all seem to be happy to talk the talk.

Face facts, your hero broke the fucking law.  You cannot tell the government what qualifies for tax exemption.  They tell you what qualifies.  You don’t get a free pass to evade tax payment just cause you have a free pass from your magical sky daddy.

Bah, you are a total dipshit Konstantin, and there’s no point in feeding your stupid troll ass anymore.

I got the info from my biology teacher.  I don’t know why he brought up evolution because biology is the study of life and not theories.

Ahh, the dodge of the uneducated. Let’s start with the definition of Theory: A logical structure that enables one to deduce the possible results of every experiment that falls within its purview or a coherent statement or set of statements that attempts to explain observed phenomena.

Now I ask, have you driven over a bridge lately? Better hope that Stress Theory is up to par. And that car you were in, Structural, Stress and Combustion Theory there. Your computer? EM Propagation and Electrical Flow Theory. Your feet still on the ground? Gravity Theory. That, my boy, is a whole lot of Theory. Unless you think it’s all angels or something.

The problem with creationism is it doesn’t hold up to the definition of a theory. It certainly doesn’t qualify as science.

If anyone is wondering, yes I’m being nice. It’s refreshing to be yelled at by a creationist and not be threatened with being burned at the stake for being a godless heretic!

I’ve often wondered how I can be a “godless heretic” when those who call me that are Christians.

Do you know why Kent Hovind got arrested?

Failure to pay taxes, and not just your garden variety failure but 58 counts of failure to pay taxes and associated obstruction of justice charges.
That’s what happens when you claim to have an income of just $50,000 while you’re selling 1.8 million in revenue to hopeless rubes like yourself in mechandise, own a least ten pieces of property in Florida, and are raking in millions from theme park revenues. He was also charged with building without a permit and building not to code (you know, those pesky things that keep your roof from falling in on you and theme parks from catching fire and burning kids), and refusing to sign the attached citation for those offenses.

I mean, he was reported for his tax evasion by one of the VP’s of Pensacola Christian College. That’s not exactly a bastion of liberal atheist thought there. He’s even made the claim that he’s not a US citizen, which would be fun for Hovind since, as far as I know, he’s not a citizen of any other nation. That claim would, if recognized, basically put him in perpetual legal limbo where he’d never be let out of prison because he couldn’t legally be anywhere on the planet.

In short, the crackpot Ponzi-scheming motherfucker deserves every bit of the derision he’s earned here. Not only is he an anti-semitic creationist nutcase, he’s also a guy who stole millions of dollars from Pensacola and Escambia county in the form of tax revenue, not to mention the more serious charges of federal tax evasion. He never even set his ministry as a church where he’d actually gain some tax protection, instead he chose to set his “business” up as an illegal enterprise (based upon tax theories from a book written by a guy who is also in prison) and paid the price for it.

As far as I’m concerned, you’d expect it to happen given our model of genetics regardless of whether or not creation happened

The logic, stage by stage:
(1)Every cell of ours has DNA (observed)
(2)DNA is a chemical template for making proteins, and so acts as an instruction book (observed)
(3)These proteins that are made ultimately define the characteristics of the organism (observed). They can form a component of tissues in large numbers, or be individual enzymes, depending on the scripted structure (observed)
(4)A change in the DNA (mutation) will change all proteins of that type made from then on, because you’re changing the template
An example is the connective tissue in your joints - if you were to change every one of the structural proteins that held it together, it would function differently (ie be more stretchy - marfans syndrome)
(5)Offspring usually start from one cell, and if that cell has a mutation, all cells that it produces will also have that mutation, because the original cell’s DNA are templates for the new one’s DNA (observed)
(6) and so that mutation will make it’s effect evident across the whole organism, if the changes to the protein makes it more likely to survive in thoes ocnditions, then it’s more likely to live long enough to to parent offspring with that same mutation (statistical logic)

It makes sense that it will happen if our model is true, creation or no creation (it doesn’t even conflict with that so long as it’s allowed to run then on). Something has to make sense to us in order for it to be beievable to us as a valid possibility, and there seems no reason at all within the model to think it unlikely

You’d have to give a scientific reason as to why it’s unlikely to cast doubt on it in our minds. Theists offer cash rewards just as atheists, with no intention of accepting anything as proof so long as you can still question whether you are actually awake (and hence whether what you see is real anyway, because if it wasn’t, you wouldn’t have proven anything)

What is the best argument for evolution being true?  If anyone got it then go to Kent Hovind and tell him that and if the statement is true he will gladly hand over the $250,000 in cash then

You might want to check out Kent Hovind’s Challenge to see what’s really going on.  Here’s one problem:  the decision in case of a challenge is made by a committee.  However,

  *  Hovind does not have the $250,000 prize money.  He claims a “rich friend” does.
  * The Committee remains anonymous.  Even a selected challenger is not allowed to know their identities.
  * The Committee is selected by Kent Hovind himself.
  * There is no evidence the Committee has even been selected.
  * The Committee is allowed to reject evidence without reason.
  * There is no defined criteria for how the Committee will decide success or failure.
  * Hovind reserves the right to reject any material, without reason, prior to submission to the Committee
  * Even when material has claimed to have been passed to the Committee no judgment has ever been delivered

Particulary revealing are the links to stories by people who have attempted to accept the challenge.  Check it out, if you dare, Konstantin.

Bahamat- Yes we have DNA and we have a heart that beats and a mind that is 100,000,000+ times more powerful then a computer.  A bee knows where to find flowers and a bird finds her nest.  The world is perfect.  Or are we still in evolution maybe with all of the global warming bull that is going on right now we will turn into more advance creatures or species like humanfish.  How do you get life?  Why haven’t we evolved to live till 500, but we evolved to from bacteria to humans.

Konstantin -

I know I said I wouldn’t feed you anymore, but I’d appreciate if you would answer me one question.  What would a Creation Scientist, or Intelligent Design Scientist (or whatever you would call them) study if they got a grant from a “liberal” university like Berkley (I use Berkley here because old Dr. Dino apparently likes to use it as an example of left wing nutjob schools)?  Would they study actual stuff, like say…fossils?  Perhaps DNA and cell reproduction?  Do stem cell research?  Find a cure for cancer, AIDS, the flu perhaps?  Any of this stuff?  I only ask because you claim Dr. Dino is your hero, and I would imagine he has probably you know, mentioned this at least once somewhere.

Of course, I predict here and now, you don’t have an answer, you are just going to spout off about how wrong your warped idea of evolution is, and maybe even point out that some of the stuff I suggested isn’t necessary, or *gasp!* related to evolutionary or creation “science” at all.

In any event, I am interested in your answer to my question.
