Remember Kent Hovind? Of course you do. The last we heard everybody’s favourite creationist nutbar and his creationist nutbar wife were looking at spending the foreseeable future preaching from behind bars. Well, Hovind’s sentence has been handed down, and it’s pretty much what everyone expected.

10 years for ‘Dr. Dino’

Pensacola evangelist Kent Hovind was sentenced Friday afternoon to 10 years in prison on charges of tax fraud.

After a lengthy sentencing hearing that last 5 1/2 hours, U.S. District Judge Casey Rodgers ordered Hovind also:

-- Pay $640,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.

-- Pay the prosecution’s court costs of $7,078.

-- Serve three years parole once he is released from prison.

Hovind’s wife, Jo Hovind, also was scheduled to be sentenced. Rodgers postponed her sentencing until March 1 to allow her defense attorney an opportunity to argue possible discrepancies in sentencing guidelines.

Prior to his sentencing, a tearful Kent Hovind, also known as “Dr. Dino” asked for the court’s leniency.

“If it’s just money the IRS wants, there are thousands of people out there who will help pay the money they want so I can go back out there and preach,” Hovind said.

Hovind, founder of Creation Science Evangelism and Dinosaur Adventure Land in Pensacola, was found guilty in November of 58 federal counts, including failure to pay $845,000 in employee-related taxes. He faced a maximum of 288 years in prison.

Jo Hovind was charged and convicted in 44 of the counts involving evading bank-reporting requirements and faces a maximum of 225 years in prison.

Kent Hovind, who is incarcerated in the Escambia County Jail, will be assigned to a prison by the Bureau of Prisons. Rodgers recommended Kent Hovind be sent to the prison at Saufley Field in Pensacola so he will be close to his family.

It will be up to the Bureau of Prisons, however, to make that determination.

Would it be considered in poor taste to gloat a little over this? Maybe, but that won’t stop me.

Read the comments beneath the article for an extra laugh.

I do not care what ‘s in the rocks and what’s in the dirt if the dirt that gives life to thousands of different plans then that is the way God made it to be.  I know that life did not come from nothing someone had to give it.  And that is God.

Konstanitin keep bringing up the same old creationist “facts” (ie utter lies) and boring old bible stories about the fall like we havn’t heard them many times before.

Dude we are well aware of the bullshit you believe in, there’s no need to keep repeating it.

Oh my god!!!!  Next they’ll start insisting that the world isn’t flat!!!  Word of advice asshat, if you want anyone to take you seriously, LEARN HOW TO SPELL!  I realize that Daniel Webster had some dealings with the Devil, but seriously, pick up a dictionary, or use a spell checker.  Colledge?  What the fuck is that?

konstantin: But just until Adam and eve ate from the tree that devil lied about

Their willingness, and ability, to do so was their imperfection. That’s my point. And that’s using an example that we only have the bible’s word for it’s existence.

If you were an all powerful, kind god, would you allow the devil to exist? What would be the first thing you’d do if you had the power to end all misunderstanding and suffering in an instant?

Though I think your heaven, if existing, should be available to all who die as a standard matter of course should they wish it, when they’re ready, I think infinite forgiveness should be available but not free (and maybe after a beating), because if it were free people wouldn’t learn from their mistakes - they need to grasp the gravity of what they’ve done (and see why it’s good/bad) in order to learn from their mistakes, in fact it’d provide feedback.

It is for selfish reasons you seek heaven, but it is also for selfish reasons that we help others, to seek peace of mind for ourselves. Selfishness isn’t inherantly bad, it just needs to be balanced and used to the advantage of a good cause

I know that life did not come from nothing someone had to give it.  And that is God.

Where did god come from then?
To loosely quote LH: “If I leave a vacuum cylinder will it spontaneously produce a god?”

If there was no mechanism by which a god could come into existence, then it wasn’t possible and didn’t happen. You’d probably say he existed forever, but then why aren’t all the worlds problems already straitened out? And without a start point to refrence to, how is it possible to quantify anything?

Konstantin, since you apparently espouse the biblical view so completely, here are some direct quotes from said book that validate an alternate truth-seekers philosophy, as opposed to “Its the truth cuz it says so”:

Proverbs 14:15-16
The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

1 Thessalonians 5:21
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good

From these two quotes we can imply that the bible implores you to think for yourself, and not accept knowledge blindly

Here’s another one for thought, direct from the horse’s mouth:

2 Thessalonians 2:11-12
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Hmmm, it states that god will decieve us, and then condemn us to hell....that is not a nice goddy in my philosophy, and neither is it in any other rational persons. People get banished to jail if they deceive other humans, so why wouldn’t you banish the deceiver god as well.

Dare to have an original thought, and the impossibility of the omnipotent, onmibenevolent god of the chuch becomes blatantly clear.

There always has been, is, and always will be, the unknown, and a sense of wonder(or fear) about it. The truth is what we seek, and the only way to know the truth is to create at theory about how something works and then test it. The above quotes give you the biblical blessing to test even the bible itself.

Most of us here have done that test and found the bible deflates to a fairy tale.

Bog Brother- That’s how I ended up going to this website and telling you guys the truth, because no one seems to make scene here, by misspelling Kent Hovind, at a Google search.
Bahamat- Because God gives the choice to people he did not make us robots he could of but He’s better then that.
scenter- That is not talking to you or evolution people.  That is talking to Christians that they should not take any evolution lie.  Evolution is clearly messed up even if you were a bum then still you would know better.
It’s a fairy tail.  Than why did people belied it believe it and will believe in it, in the word of God.  People all over the world rich poor smart not so smart, they know it’s true.  And just like Last_Hussar said “is literally true.” Thank you, one down a lot more to go.  Why did people get torched for preaching, why they still do?  Why do drug addicts and people which have “I will never kneel to no one” tattooed on their knees come to Christ?  Why are there so many miracles?  Handicapped people get up cancer patients heal when doctors tell 100% impossible.  To God everything is possible because He is our creator.  Because they find out something better then drinking, smoking, prostitution, and stuff like that.  They fond the real thing.

Bog Brother United States Posted on 10/17/2007 at 12:51 PM

So believing in something makes it so?

Handicapped people get up cancer patients heal when doctors tell 100% impossible.

So fucking what?  Cancer has been known to go into remission spontaneously, even without prayer.  However, no amputees have ever been documented to regrow lost limbs, even with prayer.  Check out this site and tell me why does your God hate amputees?  I’d be inclined to believe it was a miracle of someone who had a leg or legs taken off regrew them because of prayer.  I don’t think there would be too many people here that wouldn’t stand up and pay attention to your claims if you could show that such a situation occurred.  By all means, show me some documented evidence of any of your so called miracles that there are soooo many of.

Also, the fact that you cannot spell lead you to this site is supposed to be a good thing?  Oh wait, I know, it was god leading you to a nest of apostates and sinners so you could show them all the evidence for your faith and convince them to follow Jesus…

Yhea you guys are perfect.  Or maybe not.  I can always check and correct my spelling but can you check and correct your life?  Stop checking on spelling and start looking at the meaning.  Now that is touching.

Bog Brother- There were cases and a lot of them when A guy had one leg shorter then the other one, when a guy cut of his finger by an accident and he did not have time to go to the hospital so he put the finger back to his hand and told God to heal him and He did.  These are just the facts I know and I know a bunch of then. How?  Because drug addicts, and people that were sick come to the pulpit and testify the miracles, with the paperwork.  You should consider going to church and then see it for yourself.  Like once in a few months maybe.

Okay konstantin.  All kidding aside: no one’s perfect.  Even I make spelling errors- very rarely, but occasionally.  But if you want to discuss evolution and creation here, you’ll have to do a bit of homework, because merely asserting that you’re right doesn’t cut it.  Go ahead and read Answers in Genesis for support, but please check out the scientific opposition at, for instance, TalkOrigins.  Until you do, you’re out of your depth here.

No offence intended.  As Calvin says, “It’s a magical world”..  But you have to do some exploring and thinking to learn about how things are in our magical world.
