The fallacies of gravity…

You read it right folks! Apparently gravity has some things wrong with it. When surfing the internet I came upon this wonderful gem: http://www.christianforums.com/t3070857-the-fallacies-of-gravity.html

Of note was this: number 3. on earth we see things that defy “gravity” on a daily basis. birds and airplanes for example. are you going to tell me that the gravity of the sun is strong enough to keep PLUTo in orbit but not an airplane or a little bird??????

It amazes me that some people can even think like this...or that they dont think at all. They even mess up a simple scientific fact like gravity. My sister understood gravity when she was 7 and its not like you dont learn this stuff in school. What could be going through these peoples heads to make them see gravity as a false concept? All this adds up to a new level of stupid. Thankefully there seem to be people on there who know what they are talking about. They gave Newtons formula and many other objects of proof that apply to gravity.

However what is also bothersome is that this goes on for 27 pages, 27 PAGES! How long should it take for a regular, clear thinking person to understand gravity? A few seconds as they can test it and see the results. Well it looks as though some people need 27 pages to get educated and to still not accept the fact of gravity. Its interesting to note that this same person or persons are the same ones (in some cases) who believe in god/Jesus and a savior just for them!

This story is such a SEB story that I thought I had first heard about it from here. smile

I read most of those posts about a month ago. People like that need to be taken out back and shot to put them out of “our” misery!

Although, I was getting quite a laugh out of the “facts” this guy pushed out. smile

“Bothersome” doesn’t even begin to describe it. The forces that seek to further dumb down our nation are doing their damnedest.

Maybe he will jump off a bridge to prove gravity is only a theory. One can only hope.

Again with the ignorance and stupidity.  “Gravity” in scare quotes?  I sold general aviation aircraft for 7 years, so I do know something about it. Don’t make me launch into the principles of flight, aerodynamics, lift and thrust - without which, of course, an airplane will not defy gravity. It’s not a mirace, it’s not a fluke - it is SCIENCE.

I have to agree with you Sadie.  It’s rather frightening that the dumbing down of this country has become its official public policy.  No wonder other countries point and laugh.

I read most of the 27 pages at xian forums and was quite relieved to see no one else was as stupid as the OP (Original Poster - I had to look it up smile ). I got an interesting science lesson.

No wonder other countries point and laugh.

Not all the time … usually only at your ‘president’, evangeliclods and dumbed down masses. LOL

Why do so many people fail to see something wrong with these people; they seem to have some sort of education and some of them even have college degrees, but they have an irrational distrust of science and an irrational religious belief in supernatural beings?

I liked a thread in the “apologetics” section which started:

should christians care about protecting the environment?

if the world is going to be destroyed anyway is there any point in protecting the environment? protecting endangered species, stopping global warming ect? does it matter if we pollute the earth if the end times are coming? people say it is up to us to save the planet for future generations, but does it really matter?

Are these people so brainwashed that they actually believe this shit?

I found one interesting quote, also in the apologetics section:

Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you’d have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion.

The quote is unatributed in the post, it is from Steven Weinberg, a Nobel Laureate in physics.

Too true.  downer
I liked that quote the moment I saw it. smile

I didn’t read the story you refer to, but it sounds like it was written by a bonehead.

But that doesn’t dispute the fact that GRAVITY WAS DISPROVEN BEFORE WORLD WAR II! You seem to be hanging on to Newton’s theory a little to strongly. Not that Newton was dumb, not any dumber than Aristotle, but since his time, we have aquired better theories, that more closely resemble what happens around us.

Feel free to continue to use gravity. The equations are much simpler than more accurate ones, and with small distances and forces, they work almost as well.

Just goes to show, that even crazies get it right once in a while.

Are you on the panel judging IQ levels now, Beb?
Have you got an IQ, Babe?

but since his time, we have acquired better theories

What are they, Beeb?

Just goes to show, that even crazies get it right once in a while.

Which crazies, Bib?
Right about what, Bub?
Hell-oh-oh??
Have you still got one running loose in the top paddock, Bebe?
Did you miss all the branches on the way down and hit the roots with your head, Boob?

The poster on the CF site who described it as a car crash was spot on- ‘I shouldn’t look, but...’

I thought 27 pages, nah- read a bit then skip but he kept coming back for more. BRILLIANT.  What do we think- Troll or Fundie. No one could be that stupid, surely.  The scientist took him to pieces on science, the Christians took him to pieces on theology.  Troll, surely.
