Texas Republicans argued over whether their state convention was mainstream or filled with “religious zealots” Saturday as delegates approved a party platform that called for the repeal of the state lottery, declared the United States a Christian nation and favored posting the Ten Commandments on public property.

The Republican platform also reaffirmed the state party’s belief that the nation needs to “dispel the myth of the separation of church and state.—Houston Chronicle

“No, no, no,” I’m told over and over by my naive fellow Americans, “Something like the Taliban could never take hold here in America.”

I suggest they secede from the US and rename their new country “Red-Nexas”

I was born and raised in Texas and its something that I take pride in. I am no inbred, pig-fucking, moron as the stereotype suggests and yet no matter where I travel to it is assumed by almost everyone that I must be an idiot simply because I have a southern draw. Granted, with the current state of our political leadership it is fairly easy to understand why this stereotype remains, but then again, there are many states whose leaders ate paint chips as children as well.
