I’m not pointing fingers at anybody in particular, but in my experience, an attempt to have a conversation with the people siding with Terri’s parents is as fruitful as a that with a creationist. 

The only person whose opinion mattered was Terri Schiavo herself and both sides had more than their day in court. Human nature being what it is, though, there are those that will neither educate themselves using the most comprehensive and authoritative record - the trial records.

Elwed, it’s true that I doubt very much my opinion will be swayed as it’s based mainly on the rule of law and my sense of libertarianism, but I was in a pissy mood and I was a bit rough so I wanted to try and correct that.

Les, my point is that again, there are two camps that are firmly entrenched. One in reality and pragmatism, the other in cognitive dissonance and lofty moral heights, from which they wish to inflict their own preferences on everybody else.

What ticks me off is that the Dear Terri camp is very selective in what they accept as fact. I get the impression anything that supports their view is accepted as gospel, while anything else is shrugged off as unsubstantiated rumors. Par for the course, I guess.

Sadly, this case should never have received the notoriety it did. One reason, by the way, why I finally stopped visiting Catholic forums were all these Sincere Believers hell-bent on having the Bushes send the National Guard to rescue Terri. Now, if they had brought the army back from Iraq for that end, fine…
