If you live in New York City and own a bike then it’ll probably be a bit disconcerting to learn that you may as well not bother locking it up:

Philosophy is questions that may never be answered.
Religion is answers that must never be questioned.
Politics is answers that lobbyists pay for.

I suspect the same would be true in most other large cities.  And in some cases, the “theft” was so obvious and out there that most folks probably assumed it was “legitimate.” (Which just goes to show you that if you look like you’re supposed to be doing what you’re doing, most people will let you do it.)

Still ...

That was outlandish.  It’s nice to know there are still concerned citizens out there, geez.

I’ve discovered that it all boils down to brain wiring: your brain is wired to worship magic or it isn’t, either it’s wired to utilize logic or it isn’t, either it’s analytical of myths or it isn’t.

Beware the beast man, for he is the Devil’s pawn. Alone among God’s primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother’s land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home, and yours. Shun him, for he is the harbinger of death.

I use a steel bar lock (not a chain) with half-inch bars. Lock weighs about 1/3 of the bike’s weight itself wink

Wonder if anyone would be patient enough to saw through THAT. I also chain up my front wheel seperately.

But once I import my bike here to NZ (they have no good ones in the shops here, at least not for daily use) I will probably still end up making it look all old and unremarkable (tape and paint), because even if they can’t steal it, they can always smash it up, the assholes.
