Looks like it might be time to thin out our DVD collection some more.

I admit it’s hard to separate my knowledge of an actor from the characters they play.  For instance, I can’t look at Tom Cruise and not think of him dissing Brooke Shields’ use of SRI drugs to treat a condition he knows nothing about.  Kinda ruins the effect.

But you can hardly go wrong playing to the morally self-satisfied crowd.  I once reviewed a John Wayne movie on my blog and a commenter gushed; “He’s a true American hero!”

Ooh--pity we’ll never know who the “Christian Leaders” are.  It’d be so tempting to send at least some of them a copy of “The Italian Stallion”.  Anybody else willing to, ummm, “pony up” for that?

Any time Sly’s name comes up in a conversation (very rarely) I’ve insisted Sly’s a very smart and able showman.
With the Rocky/Rambo shows he was able to tap into the psyche of a particular slice of the movie-going public.
Now, it sounds like, he’s gonna do it all again aiming at the fundie market in particular - he’s on a winner.
I dunno how much of an xian he really is but he’s got the sincerity bit down pat.

As for Elwed’s thinning out of the DVD collection – I’ve never understood that collecting DVDs craze although if I found The Third Man I’d buy it, just for the music.

Compassion and fear don’t really mix. I don’t understand why christians fear a god they say is compassionate, unless they’re just sucking up and don’t really think it. If I were god I’d be somewhat upset and insulted people were scared of me

I’ve always been curious how acting affects a person’s state of mind. I have been told it can be refreshing, but to ‘live’ the part means doing things to their mind, so I wonder if an actor plays a certain part long enough whether they take on the personality of the character without realising.

LJ, it’s quite simple. I tend to buy the flicks I really like on DVD and over time, it adds up. of course, anything not watched in a couple of years should be flogged off on Amazon Marketplace, anyway.

I don’t actively seek knowledge about actors, but I don’t ignore it once I have it. Once I sufficiently dislike an actor, I can’t “buy” their performances anymore…
