Since posting Rose’s entry on her spirit encounters we here at SEB have been flooded with pictures from various believers in the paranormal seeking to prove the existence of ghosts. All of which I laughed off until some SEB regulars started sending pics my way. These shocking pics from long-time SEB reader Serge seem to bear out Rose’s claims after all:

GASP! IT’S TRUE! THERE ARE SPIRITS EVERYWHERE! Naturally this sudden revelation spurred me to dig through my own pictures to see if perhaps there was any evidence of paranormal activity I managed to capture by accident without realizing it. Sure enough I managed to find a picture Anne took of me here in the apartment that appears to have a ghostly figure in the background! LOOK! LOOK AT THIS STUNNING PROOF OF LIFE AFTER DEATH!!!

Yep! I’m a true believer now! How could I have missed all this paranormal activity before? All it takes is a good bump to the head with a heavy hammer and I’m seeing ALL SORTS OF GHOSTS NOW!!!

Actually I’ve quit smoking 4 years ago so there are no cigarettes in my appartment but my girlfriend has incense that we never burn and by looking at Rose’s pictures I thought the thick white smoke might have been just that...Incense.
In a matter of seconds the camera was out and you DO have to use the flash for better results.
I can very well imagine Rose burning incense.

The other pictures Rose took with the little bubbles are probably the result of spraying fine droplets of water on your camera lens which is something I will not try.
Rose, you will have put a smile on all our faces and I hope it’s the same for you.

The little bubbles are what I thought were consistent with lint or dust on the lens.  I once got the same effect from a point and shoot digital camera that I had in my pocket.  When I noticed that there were weird dots flying around I looked at the lens and saw that there was lint on it.  When I removed the lint, the ghostly blobs disappeared.  I’ve also had the same effect by using a lens that had been sitting in my dad’s closet for a while (and as such was quite dusty).

I used to restore antique photos and saw a dozen or so like this one:

Itinerant photographers from the Civil War through the early 1880’s created tintypes which required long exposure times.  A popular trick was the ghost-in-the-picture which required nothing more than for one person to exit the frame halfway through the exposure while the other sat still.

Often it was a pair of sisters or even twins in the picture.  I often wondered how the decision was made - who got to be “live” and who would be the “ghost?” Or is the seated woman depicted as sleeping and the other, the dream?

decrepid. The same effect can be done with the same person on the same frame by covering the lens and telling the person to stand and uncovering the lens again for a little extra exposure.

I see these kinds of spirits all the time--they always seem to appear after a good bong hit!

Well, Rufus-Leroy, if you inhale too much and cough, of course you see the spirit of the wasted hit escaping, instead of getting wasted yourself.  Practice makes perfect.

So Zilch, is THAT what you’re doing in your avatar? smile

That appears to be one complicated bong.

No, brandi, that is not what I am doing in my avatar.  Whatever made you think I would even entertain the notion of partaking of something unlawful?  Besides, I saw Reefer Madness, so I’m forewarned.

No, that’s a horn make of kelp, and I’m playing it.  The next second, I got soaked by a wave.  Mother Nature was trying to tell me something, but I’m not sure what…

Besides, the volume is so great, you’d probably hyperventilate before you finally got down to your hit…

I won’t even ask what you’re doing in your avatar.  I’m sure it’s illegal.

I’m posing like a bad little demon. What, is that illegal?

(If only I REALLY owned that outfit. Me-ow)

Brandi, I’m sure it’s un- or il- or im- or mal- or exo- or crypto- something.

Yes, the outfit is very, er, becoming.  Not sure what it’s becoming.

Speaking of avatars… how the hell do you upload one?  I have looked all over the “edit profile” page, but can’t seem to find an area to do that.

warbi, you don’t do it here.  Go to
http://gravatar.com/
and follow the instructions.

Thanks, zilch.  Hehe, after posting that comment, I saw Les’s blurb about “Wider is better” and went to the gravatar link. rolleyes

I really need to edit the comment form to include a link to the Gravatar site right on it. Hell, for that matter, I really need to redesign the whole damn site.

Brandi, that’s Bettie Page, isn’t it?

She said so in another entry.

Les, when you redesign the site, could you please look into a stupid little bug:

When I type something and then want a (quote) or one of the things html-things (I’m intentionally mistyping here, obviously) BUT I want it somewhere EARLIER in the comment - I would usually put my cursor there and click the button on top. But it always places the (quote) at the BOTTOM of the page.

That’s not really a bug per-se. Try highlighting the words you want to wrap in QUOTE tags and then click it. The script checks to see if there’s any text highlighted and if there isn’t then it just sticks in the opening tag at the end. If there is then it’ll wrap the quote tags around the text that was selected. The nice thing about that is then you don’t need to hit the quote button again to close the tag.

zilch,

Besides, the volume is so great, you’d probably hyperventilate before you finally got down to your hit…

That reminds me of the most dangerous contraption that I’ve ever seen.  I had a friend way back in highschool for whom marijuana smoking led to carpentry, engineering, and inventing.  One day he combined a bong with an aviator’s respirator mask and called it “The Wing Commander”.  That contraption was dangerous.  The straps that my friend added to the mask made it damn near impossible to remove when one was intoxicated, and he also changed out the bowl of the bong with one that accommodated about an ounce and a half of smokables.  More than once I witnessed someone who was unable to get the mask off and get someone’s attention use The Wing Commander and pass out from a combination of oxygen deprivation and cannabis intoxication.  I’m actually quite glad that he now refrains from smoking the ganja.

Yep! Not that Ingolfson didn’t already answer. I just didn’t want you to think I was rude and ignoring you. I didn’t see the question until just now.
