Regarding the article in the “Onion.” This is the exact reason I got so pissed off at religion that I spent five years writing about how they (organized religion) screwed us over, and over, and over.

If they waste public money, accost you in the street, and concoct bullshit social policies stemming from their junk, then yes, I guess you can - should - be angry.

Being passionate is what gets things done, in politics as elsewhere. We atheists are already at a systemic disadvantage there, lets not act as if they’re not a threat to our freedom of choice.

Both Ingolfson and Frumpa have good points.  Considering what religious wingnuts do, anger is appropriate; but sometimes, you just have to laugh at the idiots.

Anger is not uncommon when one comes to conclude they’ve been wasting time with religious belief, but I find it helps to consider the fact that it was still a means of accumulating knowledge of some sort and thusly not a complete waste of time.

Exactly.  In the same sense, Ptolomy’s geocentric worldview was also not a complete waste of time.  But it’s time we put the Sun in the center of the solar system, and in place of the Son, the Flying Spaghetti Monster!

The sad thing is I think I learn less about Intelligent Design in my Catholic school biology class than some public schools students do. Damn protestants!

While there are fundie Catholics, it’s the Protestants, for some reason, who have pretty much cornered the rabid anti-Darwin market.  Here in Austria, 95% Catholic last I looked, evolution is not an “issue”, and ID is unknown.
