SEB Mailbag: Someone comes to “Dr.” Kent Hovind’s defense.

Got an email this morning from someone upset with one of the many entries I’ve written about “Dr.” Kent Hovind. I"m assuming, based on the content, that it was one of the entries about Hovind’s trial for tax evasion. Here’s the email with my reply:

From: kevin hitch
Subject: dr kent hovind

hovind did nothing wrong he stood up for his rights and the truth is there attacking him because he is a christian thats the bottom line but i see your a liberal so i know you love bog brother and want him to control your life so get in line and get your microchip

Wow, Kevin, as a defense of Hovind that was pretty bad, but at least it was mercifully short. Hovind broke the law, tax law to be particular, and he’s paying the price for not taking the opportunities to correct his misdeed when he was offered (the IRS would much rather you pay then go to jail, but Hovind insisted on not paying until it was clear he was going to jail). His “truth” is wrong on both evolution AND tax law and unfortunately for him one of those two things ended up putting his ass in jail.

It’s good to see you’re just full of prejudices as well. Yes, I’m a liberal but that doesn’t mean I love “bog brother” as you put it. If you took the time to read more of my site you’d see that I spend a good deal of time arguing against big brother government, but you’re so smart you don’t need pesky things like facts before you make up your mind, right?

Thanks for the early morning laugh at your expense.

Les

Bog brother? Wasn’t that the guy in “The Princess Bride”?  The one that lived in the tree?  Maybe it was a half-toad, half-man hybrid created by the North Koreans that got out of hand?  Man, I could write a frickin’ comic book with this stuff.

That was quite hilarious. ‘The truth is there attacking him’, indeed.

What I’ve come to find peculiar about certain kinds of individuals is the lack of punctuation and capitalization in their output. Surely any lack of intelligence cannot explain how these people are unable to grasp that these omissions make it difficult, and often impossible, to discern the meaning of their texts. Simply reading what one has written before sending shouldn’t be asking too much.

And what’s a ‘bog brother’? And what was that about microchips?

As a current employee of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs we really would rather you just pay your legal dues than argue about it’s so unfair and say ‘take me to court’, because unless you can show we acted illegally YOU WILL LOSE.

In the UK we have County Court Judgements- legal orders to pay on debtors (any one can take action on a debtor, not just the state)

Taxpayer: Your Honour Its not fair, they ask me for tax blah blah blah immigrants blah blah Iraq blah blah Unemployment blah blah

Us: Here is the certificate of debt showing the debt is legally correct.

Judge: Judgement granted!

Unfortunately too many people think US Law shows are documentaries.

As to the grammer (and her dead these 14 years) Next time someone accuses you of some form of snobbish facism for insisting on correct English, show them Kevin’s post and say “That’s you that is, that’s how you write that is” (Bonus points to Yanks and those under 20 who place that quote)

The irony is that while Hovind may lose out on rewards, God still has used him to get the Word out, and, he will receive some rewards. Also, he is eternally secure and saved, and will see Heaven for eternity. Meanwhile, the atheist critics who sit back and put him down and laugh at him will be burning in the Lake of Fire forever in endless concious suffering and torment if they die rejecting Christ.

Think about that you anti-scientific, anti-God, deluded, deceived evolutionists. Kent is most assuredly an eternally-secure child of God through the blood of Jesus Christ, while you are on the road to an eternity of endless pain, torment, suffering, and horror beyond imagination, IF you go into eternity having never trusted in Jesus as your only Eternal Savior. I pray and hope you get saved before then. I want you to be in Heaven. This is said out of sincere care for you.

Furthermore, all it proves is that human beings, including Christians, sin. None of this takes away from the solid case for Creation science truth that Kent and others have continually taught.

I here and now challenge you to show me one single case in which complex specified information is created out of nothing spontaneously, on its own, as your claims of evolution require, and, show me one single experimentally-proven, observed case in which we have one “Kind” become another “Kind”, through mutation and natural selection. You will find that you have failed before you even begun.

The real scientific data supports the Creationists. Thermodynamics supports our case. We see, universe-wide, systems of high order decaying into systems of low order and high entropy, unless information intervenes and changes it, but even then, ultimately the entropic chaos is the result. This is a direct result of the Fall.

Turn to Jesus Christ before it is too late, He loves you.

He died for you.

Nano Dude: None of this takes away from the solid case for Creation science truth that Kent and others have continually taught.

You’re absolutely right: mangling logic and recasting science to fit your preferred religious world view do nothing to detract from the case for creation science.

This does, though, as does the simple fact that the term “Creation Science” is an oxymoron, thou moron.

Turn to science and reason before it’s too late.  It is largely indifferent to you, as is the rest of the universe.

I was going to respond to that little lecture with a rebuttle, but the more I read the more I realised I don’t want to write that much when its all such blegh.  No, that isn’t me not responding because I can’t, that’s me not bothering to argue with someone who doesn’t actually understand what he is parrotting.

anti-scientific, anti-God

Your uninformed diatribe shows often pro God means anti Scientific.  There is nothing scientific about religeon. That’s why it’s a faith, not a science.  Science has all sorts of FACTS and OBSERVATIONS to back it up.  Even if evolution is found to be wrong (and that is a very big if) that does NOT mean Creationism must be correct, in the same way proving 2+2 <> 5 does not prove 2+2=3.

The real scientific data supports the Creationists

Which data. Name one. Show me one Creationist fact that has stood up in any scientific study.

Thermodynamics supports our case.

Go on which bit. Quote it AND WE WILL CORRECT YOU, because you will misquote what the 2nd law, just as you have been taught too.

We see, universe-wide, systems of high order decaying into systems of low order and high entropy, unless information intervenes and changes it, but even then, ultimately the entropic chaos is the result.

Gosh this actually might be correct. And? Oh yes...

This is a direct result of the Fall.

No, its a direct result of the fact that the Flying Spaggetti Monster doesn’t like Monterey Jack. I’ll prove my assertion when you prove yours.

show me one single experimentally-proven, observed case in which we have one “Kind” become another “Kind”, through mutation and natural selection. You will find that you have failed before you even begun.

What does this mean ‘kind’.  Plent of stuff with mosquitos and Fruit Flies becoming genetically diverse.  If you want higher animals you are going to have to wait, as Dropsila have a breeding cycle of 2 days, not 20 years of humans, so it all happens 3600 times quicker- thats why they are used.

OR you could actually do some research, and attempt to understand what the fuck you are spouting. TalkOrigins is a good place to start (No link- if you can’t find it then you really are out of your league here at SEB).

So we can give you the intellectual kicking that you so richly deserve, please let us know what precise fairytale you believe. Young or Old Earth creation/6 Days means how long/The Flood etc.

Where is you proof of your claims? Show me an empty room, then show me something being spontaneously created by the big sky fairy inside it.

I still find it highly amusing how Creationists absolutely hate science except when they think it supports their argument. They sure do love that Second Law of Thermodynamics even though it’s clear they don’t really understand it.

Who needs to understand it so long as it appears to support their position?

Les: I still find it highly amusing how Creationists absolutely hate science except when they think it supports their argument.

This is what psychologists call confirmation bias - the tendency to accept and prefer information that confirms our previously-held beliefs and reject information that challenge them.  For scientists, it’s important to keep in mind that we’re all subject to such bias.  For true believers, such bias is largely behind the superhuman ability to look at a 250 million year-old trilobite fossil and conclude that it must have missed the ark 6000 years ago.

Again, all I see are baseless personal attacks and lack of real solid scientific information. You failed, evolutionists. Time and time again you have failed in your baseless, rootless, foundationless diatribe. Admit it. Be honest, like old Aldous Huxley. He said the reason he (and other secular humanists) hold to evolution is NOT because there is scientific evidence to back it up, but, because the only other alternative: Special creation by God, is unthinkable: You want to be your own master, your own god. You don’t want to say “God created everything and I am accountible to Him.” and notice your “way out”. You say “Even if science shows evolution is false, that doesn’t mean God is real.” Wrong. There really are only two alternatives/options: 1 God of the Bible is the true God and He created everything, or, 2 Everything evolved. 2 Has been shown to be false, so 1 is the answer, the correct way.

Again, I do not hate you all. I want you to be saved. That is why I am even here. There are no accidents. God set up this appointment, He directed me to your webpage.

The evidence points to the following: The universe was created by Someone outside of the universe, the Supernatural Agent, better known as Yahweh God. Spontaneous Generation has been shown to be false, back from the days of Pasteur.

We tell kids the old fairy tale of the princess kissing a frog and he is transformed into a prince. Everyone knows this is a fictional fairy tale.

But..."scientists" and “teachers” tell students and children that billions of years of time and chance turn a frog into a prince and it is taught as science. Utter nonsense.

Remember Piltdown Man the hoax? How about “Nebraska Man”, the one taught as being a missing link for years, even though it was shown to be a mere pig’s tooth. Why don’t you guys abandon this vain manmade philosophy, and embrace the truth? What are some of your reasons? Feel free to share this with me.

Perhaps God neglected to tell you that we’ve heard all this before.  Let me hit “fast-forward” on the remote a little and save us all some time.

Supposing anyone even decides to try to answer your questions, they’ll point to evidence for evolution that derives from multiple fields of scientific inquiry and confirmation.  They’ll explain the difference in science between an hypothesis and a theory.  They’ll point to ample documentation about it.

You’ll ignore ALL that and repeat junk about Piltdown man - a fraud that was exposed by a scientist and no one in evolutionary biology ever discusses except to mention that creationists are still stuck there.  You’ll make it clear you really don’t know what evolution is.  You’ll reveal - again - that you have no idea of the time scale involved in evolution, and you’ll repeatedly confuse evolution with abiogenesis.  Optionally you may quote scripture and label it as “truth” because after all, scripture says that scripture is true.

- Yawn -

Excuse me, this does get dull.  I mean, we’re not playing your game because it gets boring after a few (dozen) times.  There’s a few people here who will still engage you, but you’ll just brush aside what they tell you and proclaim victory in Jesus.

And for the record; while I can’t speak for anyone else here, it is dishonest to believe in something on account of it offering a personal advantage.  If you believe in something because it will get you to heaven, instead of because it is true, you’re not worth engaging in debate.

Sigh.  Why does this seem very familiar?  As usual, the regulars here have already answered, but Nano Dude did say something, not really original among fundamentalists, but seldom expressed so baldly:

There really are only two alternatives/options: 1 God of the Bible is the true God and He created everything, or, 2 Everything evolved. 2 Has been shown to be false, so 1 is the answer, the correct way.

I can think of quite a few other alternatives/options.  For instance, fundamentalist Muslims don’t believe in evolution either.  Dude- aren’t you going to be surprised when you die and Shaitan whisks you off to Jahannam.  Not only will you burn for all eternity, but you will be eternally tormented by the thought that if you’d only seen the light, you could be in Jannah with Allah and the seventy-two virgins alloted to all true believers.

Another option: the Bible could be the Word of God, and evolution could be true.  This is the position of many moderate Christians, including Kenneth Miller, biology professor at Brown University, known for his opposition to Intelligent Design.

If you don’t like those options, how about this: evolution is not true, and there is no God.  We are the science fair project of an alien kid from a rather advanced race, who created us out of old alien soft-drink cans and kitty litter.

Nano Dude: prove to me that your two options are any more worthy of consideration than mine.  And puleeze don’t say “the Bible’s true because it says it’s true”.

No a baseless personal attack would be “you eat your own poopie, snot breath”. The sneering started after your second post. What I gave were accurate responses. Rude, but accurate.

and lack of real solid scientific information.

Well I told you to look at TalkOrigins.  I didn’t use up Les’ bandwidth by pasting the whole site BECAUSE IT’S ALREADY ACCESSIBLE. If a teacher directs you towards a manual, it’s not because he doesn’t know, it’s because frankly he has better things to do with his time.

What you have done is shout and rant, but not actually told us which bits you are shouting about.  I have asked you to post you beliefs, but you haven’t. How can I tell which bits are wrong if you don’t tell me which myths you believe in.  And if you are going to say ‘science proves it’ can you tell us all which bits of science says so. Go on, show us how the 2nd Law of thermodynaics disproves evolution. Remember to quote it in full, and make reference to every verb and clause.

Are you a bible literalist- 6x24 hour days, world wide flood, etc?
