And now for a little good news for a change:

Antibody could lead to HIV vaccine—MSNBC.com

WASHINGTON, June 26—Researchers said Thursday they have figured out how a rare antibody sees past the disguises of the AIDS virus—a finding that may lead to a vaccine that will finally work against the killer microbe.

THE ANTIBODY, taken from a unusual patient whose body can resist the virus, recognizes and attacks the human immunodeficiency virus, unlike most of the body’s defenses.

“Nothing like this has ever been seen before,“ Ian Wilson of The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif., who led the research, said in a statement.

No timeline on how long it will take to translate this discovery into a workable vaccine, but it’s a major accomplishment that may have applications to other hard to fight diseases beyond AIDS.

I suppose its just my cynicism speaking but I often think that they actually have cures for many of these things (AIDS, Cancer, etc.).  The reason thay don’t share them is because they can make more money by selling expensive therapies to hold off the problems raher than solve them.  A cure is a one shot deal, you dont have any demand to bring in profit.

Hopefully it isnt the truth and they are on the way to actually getting a cure.

I suppose it reveals my true inner optimism that, as cynical as I can be, thoughts like the above are not my first reaction. I would like to think that the amazing amount of good PR for any company that came up with a cure would outweigh any thoughts that holding out on a cure would be more profitable. I’d also hope that someone within the company would come forth with the truth if such a holdout were actually taking place.

I have a dear friend that has HIV. I have read a
book, The Cure for HIV/AIDS. I forget the author.
Is it reliable? I sometimes think that the cure
for aids, cancer, etc is just a money making thing for the AMA/FDA. Please get back with me as
soon as you can. My address is:
James M. VanderMolen

Pensacola, FL 32505
Thank you for your help.
