I was kind of thinking the same thing, Webs.  I’m still trying to decide whether the GOP is helping or hurting itself by not trying to make it look like a contest at least.  On one hand, we miss the spectacle of the dogpack on the right eating its wounded.  But on the other hand, the neck-and-neck contest between Clinton and Obama keeps people’s interest elsewhere.

On the bright side (for the not-Republicans), you can almost bet on a McCain meltdown.  He has seven months to do and/or say something so patently ridiculous that his senility can’t be politely ignored.  His handlers don’t seem to have him on a short leash as they did for Reagan.

Let the “Straight Talk Express” dodge Keating 5, the marriage-wrecking affairs, etc.  Granted, he’s ideologically “pure” enough for many Dominionists by being consistently anti-choice (extra points for hypocrisy there!) and agitating for killing even more brown people in the Middle East.  But I like to think that a good slice of the fatheads who handed the Bush Regime another four years of jack-booted incompetence won’t consider bombing Iran the logical conclusion of invading Iraq.

Or maybe I’m just too optimistic.

Very interesting cg… I too am waiting to see how this all plays out. I was originally thinking it would be nice if the dems had only one candidate at the moment, so they could spend less fighting each other and spend more fighting the dark side. But you give me hope in that maybe McCain will have a senior moment and the dems can jump.

We do?  Nuh-Uh!  The People’s Choice the last two times* was a murderous incompetent smirking frat-boy whose regard for the US constitution is on a par with paper that comes in soft rolls.  The “people” are quite capable of choosing disaster and there’s no reason we shouldn’t point out the waterfall downstream from our raft when it’s necessary.

What are Obama’s policies. Yes I know he intends to enact the Soviet States of America, hand targetting data to Al-Qaida, and force White people to personally provide health care for the whole of the Latin-American world (I may have read too may posts on the TMP Current Affairs board).

As I understand it he hasn’t got any actual policies apart from peace and light for all.

I’ve said before that there was a time when I would’ve voted for McCain, but the way he sold out to the religious right, when he once was their strongest Republican critic, in order to get where he is combined with the fact that he seems intent on continuing with the idiotic policies of the current Bush Administration pretty much makes my voting Democrat in this election a foregone conclusion

I feel much the same way (don’t think he’ll push Bush’s “tax cuts”/deficit spending with the same fervor though), though better McCain than effin Huckabee or Romney.
