Haven’t done a quiz in awhile now and this one seemed pretty good so I figured I’d give it a shot.

You scored as Existentialist. Existentialism emphasizes human capability. There is no greater power interfering with life and thus it is up to us to make things happen. Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. Mankind is condemned to be free and must accept the responsibility.

I hadn’t really considered the idea that I was an Existentialist before, but in thinking about it further I suppose that it’s true. I do seem to have a ridiculous amount of optimism in humanity’s capacity to better itself despite all the evidence to the contrary that surrounds us in the daily news.

Found this one via Solonor who’s one of those namby-pamby Cultural Creatives.

Nice quiz, and now I have a name for my worldview, cultural creative. I think it was bang on with the description too.

Wonder what it means if I am nearly equally post-modernist and modernist.

You scored as Postmodernist. Postmodernism is the belief in complete open interpretation. You see the universe as a collection of information with varying ways of putting it together. There is no absolute truth for you; even the most hardened facts are open to interpretation. Meaning relies on context and even the language you use to describe things should be subject to analysis.

You scored as Materialist. Materialism stresses the essence of fundamental particles. Everything that exists is purely physical matter and there is no special force that holds life together. You believe that anything can be explained by breaking it up into its pieces. i.e. the big picture can be understood by its smaller elements.

Doh!  I tried to take it and got hung up on the third question:

Life has been a self-alienation of the divine and we’re moving closer to realizing our true nature.

I have absolutely no idea what that means so could not answer.  They needed a response of “Huh?“  And how do I answer this one:

Religions have lost their focus and should be returned to their founding principles.

If I say I disagree, that means I think religions are doing great.  If I agree, that means I think religions were doing great.

Other questions required answers far longer than the question itself.

No wonder I always did so poorly on tests.  Never did find out what my world view is. (Who writes these tests?)

You missed a small bit of the HTML is all, Qoayn. I fixed it for you. No harm done.

DOF, I had no clue what that was supposed to mean either other than it sounded like if you agreed with it you’re of the Harmonic Convergence New Age sort so I disagreed with it.

I’m with decrepitoldfool. There are some VERY poorly constructed questions in there that allow for contradictory interpretations. There’s even at least one double-barreled question in which you could agree with half the question and disagree with the other (e.g., Religious dogma and scientific empiricism are both steps in the wrong direction.)

Whoever wrote this test never took courses on psychometric theory and test construction. Go back to the drawing board and try again, I’d say.

You scored as Cultural Creative.

Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.

Yeah, I felt that way about several of the questions, too.  I ranked as an Existentialist, but the difference in scores from my highest (Ex.) to my lowest (Fundamentalist) weren’t as wide as I thought they’d be.  I guess it’s from burning those copies of Catcher in the Rye!

Hmmm.  Another “cultural creative” here.  From the sound of just those two words, we could be the hope of mankind.  Other than that, I just can’t figure it out.

On another quiz, I scored as a “South Park Republican.“  I tend to think of me more as a “South Park Moderate.“  I pretty much hate both sides of the issues these days.  Maybe that’s where the “creative” park kicks in.

Or I could just be sleep deprived and over-medicated.

I like the part that says “Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. “

Well, YES. I get “well that’s an awfully depressing outlook…“ all the time, and I don’t understand what’s depressing about it in the least?! We ARE condemned to be free. And it is a vast, wonderful thing.

In that vein, I’d like to link to an Apple commercial that can actually make me cry. I wonder if the other existentialists like it as much as I do….

Here’s to the Crazy Ones

“They push the human race…forward”

I may have chosen some different ‘crazy ones’, my personal idols, but it’s a fine commercial nonetheless.

Ayup. Grabs me right in the chest first thing out of the chute.

I say I’d change some of the characters, but then again, I don’t suppose they have any news reel clips prior to the invention of moving pictures, huh?

I’d like to see Thomas Jefferson in there…and maybe Werner Von Braun, but I bet only Nasa geeks would know who he is.
