I vote to leave it as is.  The main reason is that it provides simple navigation of the site even when you’re buried deep in some old comments.  If I understand the new idea correctly, one would have to return to the main page to see the new topics and scroll through.

Two features I do miss though are the ability to see who posted the last comment, and the ability to ‘click’ on a recent entry link and see the topic along with all posted comments.

The site is fantastic.  For only being on EE a short while it is incredibly smooth.  The only qualm I’ve had is with my firewall.

Some folks might use the sidebar to hop from entry to entry after going to the comments page.

I never even thought of that… My site recent entries starts with the first entry after the the last entry displayed on the main page.

I didn’t even think of using that as a way of navigating other posts. Hmmm. Maybe I’ll have to rethink mine.

Maybe put “more” recent entries in a DIV and have a JavaScript link that expands the list to include more recent entries. Hmmm, I may just have to do that myself. Have the recent entries show the same 20 entries on my main page, then have a “more” link that expands the list to include 20 more entries or something… Looks like I have a little work ahead of me tonight.

I could make a second nav bar specifically for the comment page which would keep the current format.

Put me down as a vote for that option. I rarely use the nav from the comments page to move around myself (I always go back to Main and then to the next entries), but I realize that many people might and it’d be a good option for them to have the front page’s posts linked from the comments page.  Just my .02

DeadScot, I was able to honor at least one of your two requests. For some reason I forgot to modify the link in the recent entries to point to the comment page, but now when you click on the link it should take you straight to the entry with the comments displayed.

The other issue is not as simple to find a work around for, though I’m still digging for a means to pull it off.

That sounds like a great idea.  I imagine you could even set up the main list to collapse and expand if you’re trying to regain space to see the latest comments.

I tend to scroll through links on the main page, and rarely (heh) get so far behind that I lose any of them.  So I’ve never really made any use of the “Most recent posts” listing, and have never really seen the point on the sites I visit.

But that’s why I have my own blog, of course, so that I can ignore what people want to do with theirs.

Not exactly a regular. And this is a bit off topic. But I often find I have massive problems getting the site to recognise I type in the correct word. Often have to submit multiple times. Gets a bit irritating especially when it happens and I forget to “copy” the block of text so I do not have to type over again (not that I usually retype when this occurs unless it is a small one sentence post.)
