Today was Take You Kid To Work Day at my place of employment. At least it was according to the t-shirts they were handing out to the little tykes.

You’re right, the spelling is technically correct, but it does make for a bad sentence.

In the context of the sentence the spelling is wrong. If they hadn’t forgotten the “r” it would have been fine.
