Pope hurt by naughty priests.

In a stunning almost non-condemnation the Pope finally chimed in on the growing number of pedophilia scandals making headlines around the world.

“As priests we are personally and profoundly afflicted by the sins of some of our brothers who have betrayed the grace of ordination in succumbing even to the most grievous forms of the mystery of evil at work in the world.”

In all, the Pope devoted a whole paragraph out of a 22 page letter he writes annually to all priests involved in the church. The paragraph bemoans the “dark shadow of suspicion” that now hovers over the priesthood as a result of the scandals, but doesn’t go on to condemn the actions of any of the accused in any way. Nothing even so much as chastising the bishops and cardinals who shuffled these predators from one parish to another instead of turning them over to the police as they should have from day one. Not even a promise to enact new rules to ensure that any future accusations are dealt with immediately and thoroughly instead of just sweeping it under the rug.

Just a lot of whining about the church’s now tarnished image. It would probably help the church a lot more if the Pope were seen to be taking this scandal as the tragedy it is and made some firm statements on how the church will go about getting it’s act cleaned up and attempt to repair the broken trust with its members. As always, though, the church is beyond criticism even when the scandal reaches into the upper echelons of its hierarchy. This isn’t just about how a bunch of priests molested kids, this is about how the church as an organization went about covering it up and allowed hundreds of additional people to be molested just so the church wouldn’t suffer from bad PR. They put the intrests of the church’s image ahead of the welfare of its members. With that lack of willingness to apply its own morality to itself, is it any wonder that such a scandal was able to continue for as long as it did?

zak, so i reread your long post, and you said that the church won’t give sacrements to those that never followed. hello, we don’t care,we are atheists. i also feel that looking outside yourself to some god is very damaging, you have to look within yourself for peace, or you never truly find it.
i can’t wait to see what else he has to say either.

Hello good evening my brethren Dominus Vobiscum!
well you find it damaging? I see, I want one of you to answer this question that I am going to put forward for you..well actually 2 questions.

NOW please answer them with the gratest seriousnees, not just say “simple they thre ketchup on it to make it red”

so…. the questions are:

1) that priest who was celebrating mass in germany or Italy( not sure which one), and when he was consecrating the bread into christs body, and he doubted that it was christs body and christs blood, the bread turned to flesh with blood dripping and the win became blood! I am not joking and its not a joke either, I think you can go to see this miracle, It happened infront of many people, its not a bluff. thats q. no1

2) when mary appeared in Fatima in 1917 to 3 children, and they went to tell their parents and the parish priest found out too, and every one was angry at them for lying and then one day 1000 people gathered to see this so called lady, and when she appeared the sky turned red and al the people say was a powerful light, how ever the children saw her figure. She revelade 3 secrets that day, on e of them happened in 1980 when pope john paulII was shot.
explain these sacred happenings please , remember to be serious!

Seriously, the Martians did it.

Well it makes as much sense as the answer you are looking for.

1) If it happened at all it was likely simple slight of hand. It would be child’s play for even an amateur magician after a little practice. Not all that dissimilar to the “psychic surgery” frauds. You want to see something impressive go to a David Copperfield or Chris Angel magic show.

2) First off there appears to be quite a bit of debate over just what happened and what was supposedly revealed during the Our Lady of Fatima phenomena. More specifically that the “third secret” was the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II is questionable at best.

Beyond that the “powerful light” that appeared at Fatima was the friggin’ sun and if there’s one thing that’s sure to fuck up your sense of vision and lead to all manner of strange sights it’s staring directly into the sun, which many people are reported to have done at the time.

The were frauds, Zak. Poorly executed cons, like religion itself. You can see better “miracles” every day in Vegas magic shows.

You really want to know how the business of miracles works, take a look at the movie “Leap of Faith”.

Zak;

If sacramental bread literally turned to “flesh with blood dripping” and the wine literally became blood, don’t you think that samples would have been taken and tested, and it would have been scientificly documented?

Do the stores in Fatima sell bumper sticker that says “Come To Fatima; Eat, Drink, and See Mary”?

I ate a girl name Mary once….

Probably not the appropriate thread to discuss that, though.

KPG:

I’ve was trying to come up with a bread to flesh and wine to blood joke to go with eating Mary, but I resisted.

Maybe in the bisexual thread…

flesh with blood dripping and the win [sic]became blood

God: You said What
Jesus mumbles
God: What
Jesus:Eat this bread it is my flesh
God: WHAT! You told them to be cannibles? Great start to a new religeon. Anything else
Jesus mumbles
God: Drink this wine what?
Jesus: It is my blood…
God: Great Cannibalism and vampirism…

(with apologies to Eddie Izzard)

Zak: the bread turned to flesh with blood dripping and the win[e] became blood!

So kid, ya gotta tell me - did they all eat the meat and drink the blood?  LOL
Don’t you have a problem with that transmogrification stuff?
Doesn’t it remind you, just a little bit, of cannibalism?

every one was angry at them for lying and then one day 1000 people gathered to see

So, in fact, ‘everyone’ was not angry with them.
Ever heard of delusional, wishful thinking or Rorschach inkblots.
They all work together here in non-miraculous ways.
Kid, get a grip on you brain and use it.
Just cos all this stuff is an adult fairy tale doesn’t alter the fact it’s still a fairy tale.

this is exactly why these beliefs are so damaging, you actually buy this stuff they tell you. you were there? did you see this with your own eyes, and even if you had, why would you believe it to be real? look at david blaine, and the amazing things he does, if he claimed it to be a miracle from god, a lot of people would actually believe him. look at some of the people who bleed from their hands, and they think it is something to do with jesus. i think it has more to do with the power of their mind, or it is a bleeding disorder, nothing to do with jesus. the mind is a very powerful thing. it can heal, among many other things. i think if jesus did exist, which i highly doubt, he was a magician, sorry for my poor spelling. miracles happen a lot, but it has nothing to do with any god, and there are many frauds taking place, especially with religion, which is sad.
another thing this reminded me of, the other day my son came home from school and asked me if people drink wine in church because he heard something about this. i told him yes, sometimes, for religious ceremonies. his reply was, “you know why they do that don’t you? it’s so you will believe what they tell you.” i laughed so hard. LOL  LOL

Zak, it is caused by “ergotism”, see

when the mysterie sanctifies it

Abracadabra ... woooo.

It reminds me of the old joke about a guy who is about to leap off the Brooklyn Bridge.  An old withered-up hag approaches him and asks him why he’s going to jump.  He’s says that he’s a bank manager who has embezzled millions of dollars and gambled it away.  The auditors are about to discover the theft; and he’ll be jailed.  When he told his wife, she immediately moved out.

The old witch-like hag says, “Sonny, I can help you.  I have magical powers.  All you have to do is make wild, passionate love to me all night long, and I will make everything right again.”  The guy says, “Wow, this is just like a fairy tale; I’ll do it!” “Poof” she says, “the money is back in the bank vault, the paper-trail is fixed for the auditors, your wife has forgiven you, and she is on her way back home. Now take me to a motel and fulfill your end of the bargain.” He’s is so relieved, he puts aside his revulsion of her appearance and makes good on his agreement.  When he’s finished and is getting dressed, he says “Gee, I can’t believe how lucky I am that you came along; now I can return to my perfect life.”

The old hag asks him how old he is, and he replies that he’s forty.  She says, “Sonny, don’t you think you’re a little too old to still believe in fairy tales?!”  LOL
