Les you wanted a rant and here is one. (That’s like “I always wanted to be a writer, and now I are one!)
In my Book “God-101” I go to great lengths to explain that the book is not about religion, but rather, what religion is NOT!
Let me put it into a nutshell for all you squirrely people out there. Never mind what God wants you to do. (And there IS a God, we just don’t know who, what, where, why etc. Why? Because it’s GOD stupid!)
Ours is not to question why, ours is just to do or die!
Forget trying to convert everyone else to being a good Christian, or Muslim, or Hindu, or anything. That’s not your job. Forget trying to explain what God wants, or needs or thinks, that’s not your job!
Don’t try and proclaim a message in God’s name, that’s not our job. Don’t try and petition God, (I’ll go out on a limb here and say that’s not God’s job!) Don’t worry about the afterlife, that’s not our job!
I could keep going but you get the idea.
Our job is to do the best we can. Our job is to make life a little easier for everyone by “helping out” and being there when needed. Our job is to live life, (and die) with a bit of class and a state of grace!
In other words it’s time we grew up as a Race and became responsible for ourselves instead of doing everything in “GOD"S NAME”
Allan W Janssen - from the book - The Plain Truth About God-101 what the church doesn’t want you to know!

And how do we know that it is your job to bestow this wisdom upon us?

Amen, brother moses wink Couldn’t agree more. My experience of religious people suggests that it’s ok to sin as we’ll be forgiven. It’s ok to ruin this world, ‘cos we’re going to a better one. What a waste of the one life we have and the one planet we have to live it on.

Most of the humanists and atheists that I know make an effort to treat others with love and kindness, or if that is not possible, to at least not mess with other people’s minds and egos.

God is humankind’s attempt to take star-fuckering to the Nth degree.

It isn’t what ya do but WHO ya know.

That sounds about right… leave out all the nonsense about the collector of prepuces, and I’ll go along with you.

Zilch, stop that!

I also don’t agree that there’s a God, nor does the deliverance of this message sit well with me. But I’ll agree with the bit Zilch quoted and some of the other points about not judging.  smile

The premise of the rant is decent enough, however, the problem I see here is that every believer out there seems to know what this fictional god wants or doesn’t want.  This rant doesn’t appear to be an exception.  And why is it that everything is or isn’t our ‘job’ to do.

The reality as ‘I’ see it, is that our lives have no cosmic purpose.  We are just here.  There is no job for us to do or not do.  However, in order to maintain a civil society that is more pleasant for everyone involved it is helpful to treat yourself and others with respect.

Let’s get things back into perspective here! Even though I do believe in a God,that’s as far as I will go. By it’s very definition and nature this Cosmic Force is unknowable, and my gripe is that everyone who is religious keeps claiming to know the “Mind of God,” which is utter bullshit. That’s not what we should be concerning ourselves with. Anything we do - should be for our benifit, not Gods’.
God doesn’t need any help.

Moses have you ever seen the “documentary” ( rolleyes ) What the Bleep do We Know? What you have stated just reminds me of a lot of the statements made in the movie.
