What are your feelings on the issue?  What evidence supports your belief, thoughts, ideas etc?  Why did you come about with those feelings, beliefs, thoughts, etc?  What do you feel or think about gay rights in terms of marriage, tax status, etc?  Have you ever met a gay person or know one personally?  What were they like?  Have you ever been approached by someone that is gay?  What was your reaction etc?

If you don’t want to answer the more personal questions feel free not to.  Just some ideas to get the blood flowing to the fingers…

[Editor’s Note: I’ve made a new Sexuality category seeing as the topic seems to come up regularly and none of the other categories were a good fit.]

With millions of Americans working their asses off to keep their senior parents in a “home”, you could hardly say they lack family values.  Maybe they lack imagination, though.  For the cost of nursing home care, they could indeed build a “granny flat” and give their parents a more dignified last half-decade, even with the cost of medical help stopping by every day.  Of course zoning boards take a dim view of creative solutions—they like everything in neat little squares.

Look I will probably do the same thing to my parents that everyone else in America does with theirs, put them in a home.  But we are one of the few societies that do not take care of our grandparents or extended families.

Sadie: yea I forgot about that.  LOL

Just sayin’, Webs, that has more to do with our highly mobile culture than it does with lack of caring or values.  It isn’t always the kids who moved, either; my mother is in Seattle because that’s where she wanted to be.  Now she’s wondering what to do with her mother, who lives in Pleasant Hills, Calif. and is beginning to fade.  It’s rather unfair to attribute uncaring attitudes to others.

To die one’s self is a thing that must be easy, & light of consequence; but to lose a part of one’s self—well, we know how deep that pang goes, we who have suffered that disaster, received that wound which cannot heal.

Well as he has often reminded me, because the attribution is to an entire group rather than to individuals with whom he has interacted or of whom he at least has some knowledge.

As it might be relevant to the subject of this post, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Americans’ family values.  We do care about our kids, our parents, etc.  The challenge is the practical difficulties presented by our culture.

Maybe I should consider moving to Denver. Then again, San Francisco’s the best place in the country (and I’m within an hour of it), so I think I’m good.

One of the many wonders of modern science is that I no longer have to endure a doctor’s finger up my arse (hope you’re not smiling there, doc) to test for an enlarged prostate and prostate cancer - it’s now a simple blood test every year.
Last year when I went in he said I needed a prostate gland check. I mentally prepared my self for the invasion and was ready to drop my dacks, jump on the couch and lie on my side when he started to write out a blood test referral.
I said I was rather disappointed I didn’t have to go through the old test anymore.
We both knew I was being sarky.
Which reminds me ... ah, next month. wink

You really are lucky that you don’t have to endure an annual pap smear. Jesus Christ on a fucking pogo stick those things hurt.

OUCH ... I concur.
The annual anal probe never ‘hurt’ - it was just ... um ... too gay.  red face
If men had to endure any annual test up the barrel of the weapon you can be assured we woulda fixed it years ago.
Last year I had some pain in my left nut so the doc sent me to have a (damned good looking) lady radiologist put gel on my sac and move an aparatus over and over and over and over and over it so the images would come up on a screen.
It was a little difficult not to crack a fat.
It’s like being told not to think of pink elephants; it’s almost impossible.
Oh, the results? Nothing.  smile

They can’t biologically have kids. They should also not be allowed to adopt kids.

So should straight couples who cannot biologically have children be able to adopt?

It’s [hmomosexuality] unnatural because humans REQUIRE a male and female to reproduce.

Well . . . my understanding of the definition of “natural” is something that occurs in nature. The definition of natural is hardly tied to reproduction, otherwise there are innumerable things in which you’re invovled with everyday that are “unnatural.” Automobiles. Telephones. Computers. Televisions. etc., etc.

I don’t stick anything up my ass. It’s an “out” hole , not an “in/out” hole.

I don’t know how old you are, but when your doctor finally gets around to recommending a colonoscopy, is that goign to be your response?

I don’t mean to keep prodding the beast, but . . . I think Moloch is just spouting off to push everyone’s buttons. I’m just curious to see some actual answers instead of inflamatory bullshit.  raspberry

All this effort for equal rights, opportunities and access for homosexuals won’t mean anything, regardless of what laws are passed?

Why?

Because ultimately, they’ll still be ostracized by the mainstream who considers them aberrations. Favoritism and preferential treatment will always be slanted towards the straight. That I’m sure of.

I’ve nothing against gays. But I’m realistic about how society views them

I wouldn’t be so sure, AntiCrank.  “Always” is a very long time, and one thing that history teaches us is that it’s next to impossible to predict how society will change.  One hundred years ago, it was the mainstream opinion in America that women should not be allowed to vote.  Two hundred years ago, the mainstream opinion was that it was perfectly alright to hold slaves.  These are no longer acceptable opinions to hold in mainstream America.

Alphacub: when your doctor finally gets around to recommending a colonoscopy

Ah, the dreaded colonoscopy.
My mother died of colon cancer so the doc told me I had to have one when I was 50.
I’ve had four so far.
It’s not the colonoscopy (cos it’s under general anaesthetic - although I did ‘awake’ during the first one and see what was happening in my colon – doc found polyps and burnt them off – hey, I won’t die of colon cancer) so much as taking ‘the preparation’ the evening before that ‘evacuates’ the bowels - and if you think that picture is a bit off, try experiencing it.  LOL

Zilch: These are no longer acceptable opinions to hold in mainstream America.

Some countries have even evolved enough to ban capital punishment as they have recognised that it’s not a deterrent for any crime.  wink

For me a good way to deter crime is to overhaul social order to the point that every nation is like Sweden.

Sweden has among the lowest crime rates in the world because government spoils the people with cradle to grave care. Since everyone’s needs are taken care off, there’s little motive to commit criminal activity.
