Oklahoma latest state to have video game law ruled unconstitutional.

They’re dropping faster than a bunch of demons in Doom 3 as another video game law gets the judicial smackdown:

Judge Robin Cauthron, the first female federal judge in the state of Oklahoma, said that the Oklahoma law “violates the United States Constitution’s First Amendment freedom of expression and is unconstitutionally vague under the Fourteenth Amendment.” She also found no evidence that video games harm kids and rejected arguments that the “interactivity” of games meant that First Amendment provisions did not apply.

Judge Cauthron also noted that the law would have restricted minors’ access only to video games but not to material that was just as violent or sexual in books, films, and other media. Violating the Equal Protection Clause in such a manner is a big no-no, and it’s no way to write broad legislation.

You’d think folks would get the idea that this shit ain’t gonna fly, but they keep trying and they keep wasting tax payer money in the process. Hell, California is considering trying again.

Beware the beast man, for he is the Devil’s pawn. Alone among God’s primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother’s land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home, and yours. Shun him, for he is the harbinger of death.

Everyne know that video games don’t make you violent, they just make you fat. grin

Man, trying to leave a comment from Safari is an exercise in frustration. Just clicking on the box makes it disappear, you have to do a little triple click dance and have the whole page selected to get an insertion point.

Now the harder part… getting the captcha to work. grin

I’ve installed the Safari beta from Apple and, you’re going to hate me for saying this, the site works just fine with it. No disappearing links or text boxes. At this point, short of buying a Mac, I can’t replicate the issues that Mac folks seem to be having on SEB. I’ve seen the screenshots, but I can’t test for it and that makes fixing it a lot harder.

But I’ll keep plugging away at it to see what I can do.

Thanks Les. I’m using Firefox to comment now, which works fine. I just wish it weren’t so sloooow compared to Safari. grin

I wonder why my gravatar isn’t working… hmmm.

Your Gravatar is working for me at the moment. Perhaps a momentary hiccup on their server.

Which brings me to suggesting that you register an account here at SEB. Not only would it allow you to upload your avatar locally and establish a profile here which people could use to send you private messages, but it bypasses the captcha one posting comments. Plus you can easily submit an entry if you suddenly find yourself so inclined.

I assure you that I don’t sell my user lists to spammers.
