I certainly hope this will come back and bite them in the ass before the election- perhaps they’ve gone too far even for the Americans.  But the Republican spinmeisters have truthiness down to a science, making their Democratic counterparts look like pikers- remember the Swift Boat campaign?- and their spiel is well tuned to strike a chord in the hearts of their marks.

Of course, that’s politics and it has always been so.  But you have to admire the heights of breathtaking shamelessness that the Republicans have achieved of late.

Oh, and now that people may finally wake up to the fact that moose hunting is Alaska is not the skill we need when Wall Street is burning, I think Obama’s effective chances have also gone up quite a bit again.

At their closest point the USA and the Russian Federation lay 51.5 miles apart.  How far you can see be fore the curvature of the earth blocks line of sight can be calculated here.

Last Hussar: far be it from me to doubt that Sarah Palin can see Russia from America.  After all, as Matthew told us about Jesus’ temptation:

4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Palin has similar connections, and if Jesus could see the whole world from an exceeding high mountain, then surely Palin can see Russia across the piddling Bering Straits.
